I see these Ott-Lites in all the quilting magazines. Does any one have one? I really need a lamp next to my machine but am afraid to spend that much money if they're not that much better than and ordinary lamp. Any comments?

I'm glad you started this thread because I am thinking of buying an Ott Lamp too. I think the selling point is that it shows "true color".

I have an Ott-Lite and love it. I mainly use it when I am doing handwork.. whether it is embrodiery / redwork, hand piecing, handquilting or ripping out a mistake! LOL! I occassionally use it when I am sewing on my machine.. mostly if I have a fabric that is difficult to see.. like sewing with black thread on black fabric. I do think it shows truer colors than regular lightbulbs.

Watch JoAnn's. They have 50% off Ott-Lite sales several times a year. I bought a travel size one so that I could move it around as needed. I also bought a floor model for my mother. She doesn't sew, but has trouble with her eyes and the Ott-Lite has made a huge difference in her ability to see crossword puzzles and books for reading.

Hi Kathy, In the.............. storage and organization?......... thread Lucia wrote some info re Ott lites.................."Do you have in your area any Big Lots or Job Lots stores? I bought at Big Lots floor Otte light lamps for $29.00! Actually I think they are called Easy Reading. When I went to their site I found they are the makers of the Otte lights.".........is her info, I am just passing it on. Good luck. 8) Betty

I have a floorlamp with three bendable lights at the top It has frosted plastic sides and I have added grow light bulbs You bend them every which way you like. You can set them as close as you like or flood the room with light. The grow lights seem to give more light with out glare. My lamp came from Lowes homecenter.

I almost bought an Ott light, but when I started comparing brands online I decided on an UltraLux light instead. If you go to the site listed below, you can compare their brand with other brands. I love my UltraLux.

Glad I could help. I see they now have a light called BlueMax that looks interesting. If you decide on the UltraLux, I hope you like it as well as I do.
