pattern suggestions please
I have a, so far, vague idea for a quilt based on a train journey through Lincolnshire UK last winter - it was a very frosty, foggy morning, with a weak sun shining through the mist, and I was entranced by all the colours of the countryside, mostly cold and pale, but with darker greens, browns and black, plus the yellow/orange of the sun. What I'm seeing in my mind is different-sized and shaped rectangles and squares of the different colours, in an arrangement that might look random.
Any suggestions for a pattern/block that might help me achieve this effect?

A pattern called Bailey's quilt may work.
The link is to a shop that sells the pattern.

I made the quilt shown below for a gift last year.

Your description prompts a watercolor type quilt to my mind. You can buy a foundation with squares printed on it to fuse your colored squares to, then stitch all the seams in one direction, snip them at the intersections with the lines going the other way, and sew the seams in the opposite direction. Makes it very easy. I like the image you remember. Go for it!
