I love the Pfaff for "real" sewing and have recently started quilting and the IDT is perfect. Now I'm spoiled and will always want this feature on my sewing machine. I don't understand why I would want a machine without it. Fortunately, my husband understands a quality machine is an extremely important issue. I've never regretted buying it.

Yep. Eight thousand is a little rich for my blood! And even if I could afford it, I would wait for them to get any kinks out. I am not into being a beta test for anyone! I loved my Pfaff until it died and went to Home Economics Class Heaven!

I am on my second Pfaff and love it too. I started with the 7570, then traded it in for the 2144 which I have had for about 6 years. It is a dream. I just wish it had a larger throat like some of the newer models.

I bought a Pfaff 262 in 1968 and will never, ever get rid of it. It is so strong and I do most of my regular sewing on it. Now I did buy the extra walking foot for it from a Pfaff dealer in New Berlin, Wisconsin and it works great. I bought a Pfaff 2170 embroidery machine in Nov, 2008 which has the IDT. What a convenience having it built in and it works great. I also have a Pfaff 130, the great mechanical that is a Pfaff collector's item. Wow-my favorite thing to do on it is free motion quilting. I thought my Pfaff 262 was a tuffy, this thing is a super strong machine. Love my Pfaffs! I do use my mother's treadle to piece; a New England Queen she received as a wedding present in 1945.

I loved my Pfaff until it's motherboard went haywire. It's been in the repair shop in Spokane since February. For some weird reason, the shop keeps telling me that keep having to backorder the board. ???? I have my old 830 Bernina I'm using right now and that machine is over 37 years old and still runs and runs and runs. I also have an really old Pfaff for a backup and when that old girl sews she is noisey about it but she gets the job done.

I want to jump in here too, to say I love my Pfaff Creative Vision 4.0 and the 4D software. Expensive? Yes...but worth every penny.

I have two Pfaff machines. Unfortunately, neither of them have a built-in walking foot. However, I still love them. I also purchased a used Pfaff machine about forty years ago and it is still working great. My son now has it. I don't think I would ever purchase anything but a Pfaff.

As others have explained, the IDT is a dual feed system that snaps down into the foot to help move the top fabric in concert with the bottom fabric. It works fantastically. You can either use this feature or not. Some feet come with the clear area in the back so that you can engage the IDT while some other feet are solid and do not allow the engagement of the IDT.

I too have two Pfaffs. I LOVE the IDTs (both have it) I have a 2170 (for embroidery) and a 2054 (for piecing). I have 4D as well. I have taught both 3D and 4D but as I am not currently working could not justify the 5D or the new Creative Vision which I would dearly love to have as well. If either of my Pfaffs were to die, I would replace them with another Pfaff.
