Pin embedded in stippling! Now what?

Luckily I only had this happen once. What I did was locate the nearest seam and slit a few threads to open it. Cut only the absolutely required stippling stitches between the pin & the seam and wiggle it out through the opening. Then you only have to "touch up" with a little quilting & I just topstitched the seam I had opened, though you could handsew it for a nicer look.

Ha! this just happened to me. I gave it back to my long-armer and she re-did it for me.. Thank god I found it, the pin was in a baby quilt for my baby nephew! Yikes!

This very thing happened to me last weekend! Somehow I quilted right over the pin (one of those 2" flower head pins) without breaking the quilting machine needle. I found the pin the hard way when sewing the binding on. Ow!
Luckily I'd quilted the quilt in long wavy rows and with some finagling, was able to work the pin to the edge of the quilt without having to rip any stitches. It took some "doing", though!
What a nifty idea of breaking the pin head with a hammer. I wouldn't have thought of that! :mrgreen:
