Default Please help me decide about the Janome 15000 Sewing / Embrodery Machine

We took my 7700 (which I love) in for it's annual check up and cleaning on Saturday. While we were there, my husband saw the 15000 and saw that it may help me with the piece of quilting I struggle on - the actual quilting. The dealer is offering a machine used in a quilting festival class for $8900 with no trade in (and no iPAD).

Questions:
1. Is this a fair price for a barely used machine?
2. Has anyone had luck quilting a king size quilt on one (and what kind of batting did you use)?
3. Has anyone used EQ Stitch to create the design to quilt for the 15000?

I really appreciate your help!

I do not understand the Ipad part but $8900 sounds like a very good price for the 15000.

When I checked with my dealer, which is the same as yours, I think, he wanted $7000 plus my 12000 for the 15000 and no iPad. I decided to pass and keep my 12000 which I love. So, based on my experience, that rice doesn't seen too bad. But, you might also want to check out the 12000 since the price has dramatically drop with the 15000 now on the market. IMHO there isn't that much difference between the two machines.

I had the 11,000 so upgrading to the 15,000 was nice. I only quilted a baby quit so can regard on anything bigger.

Here's my take on it. You asked if anyone has had any "luck" creating a king size quilt with the 15000.

I've done several king size using my 7700--and the 15000 has the same size or larger throat, so it should be just fine. I'm not sure what luck has to do with it. (I said it "tongue in cheek" but I'm not sure what luck has to do with it--really.)

Here are two: and . Both were in the 110x110" inch range.

My batting was a 100 gram polyester (I think that would be 3 oz. though I'm not sure exactly how it is measured.)

As to the price--I have no opinion. I do like my 12000, but really use my 7700 daily for quilting and piecing. I mainly use the 12000 for embroidery.

You love your 7700 but struggle to quilt large quilts with it, so why not keep your 7700 and get a Bailey, either sit down or a frame(http://www.baileyssewingcenter.com/test.html) and save yourself a few thousand dollars? The Bailey has a good reputation and customer service.

justflyingin,
You quilts are beautiful! My downfall is thatI have no coordination. I tend to shake a lot and my shapes don’t look right. I’m really good at straight stitch quilting J.
I was hoping to use one of the quilt patterns (outline) built into the machine or design in EQ Stitch and quilt one square at a time on my king size quilt in the works.

I know sending out to a long arm might be cheaper, but right now I’m thinking of all sorts of stuff I can do with this new toy.

Thanks all for your pictures and feedback!
