I try to make long then trim back as needed, may not work if decorative. If measured then sewed w/border on the bottom without a walking foot, bottom may have lightly gathered as were sewn unless it was pinned, Can try to remove and re-add border with top on bottom and boarder on the top when sewing. also can gently hold bottom fabric firmer than top, may feed more even, Geeze hope that made since, you can do it!! :)

Being a beginner maybe your quilt is not square. That could be why you have a shorter measurement then you need. One trick I do it just sew on a border and cut it to fit the length after sewing. I then press any fullness by overlapping the fullness to the seam. It works and no one can tell. Borders are tricky for me and I've been quilting for long time.

I've been quilting for years, and this is the first this happens. The side edges would stretch when I was attaching the side borders.

amma: I followed your instructions and it worked.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I appreciate it.
