I've been thinking about a technique I saw recently in the Nancy Zeiman blog. She "tied" a baby quilt by using one of the decorative stitches on her machine, like a single heart or something. That seems like a neat way to do it. I have a couple of great-grandbabies coming next year. Think I'll give it a try.

Default Tied Quilt - Red, Black, White

Here are pictures of a twin size tied scrappy quilt. Blocks appear to be on point, but they are not. Ties are not too obvious. They are black in most areas, but red in the red areas.

If you have a quilt with intricate piecing (or applique) and you want to tie it but don't want the ties to show, tie it from the back and the ties are barely noticeable from the top side. I have done that with several quilts.

My tshirt quilt is actually only tied in the cornerstones - the rest is machine quilted.

No pictures, but I tied many for charity. We tied them at the corners (points) and it hid any points that didn't match!

I would like to try tying on the back, but wonder about doing it with some pieced tops. For instance, I am tying a nine patch quilt top. I want the ties to all be centered in each 2 inch square. How would I be sure the ties are in the proper places within the squares? I'm sure there is an easy way, but my brain just can't come up with it! Any sugestions? Thanks.

The queen size lover's knot quilt, that I made for my sister, was the last one that I tied before I got a short arm quilting setup. Too old to be crawling around on the floor. I've since upgraded to a mid-arm quilting setup. The others were from when I first started quilting about 20 years ago. I don't remember to whom the baby quilts were for. The Ohio Star was for my BIL & his wife (since divorced) and the dbl Irish Chain was for my in-laws.
