Poor unloved quilt (sorry it's kind of long)

I'd use a slate blue/gray or a neutral tan--but I've found that a sage green (what Jamie Wallen calls baby poop green) is a surprise on how well it works with other colors.
Sorry your daughter lost her heart to a louse--but glad she found out now rather than later. I like your idea of making it for another friend--I probably would have been tempted to take a rotary cutter to it!

First, I'm sorry for the heartbreak from the relationship. Betrayal is such an ugly thing, and it stings for a long time. But I'm so thankful the truth came out now.
A greyish green thread might look good? What color is the backing?
I might use parallel lines of the serpentine stitch. Quick and easy, but would add a bit of curve to the linear design.

Really pretty quilt...and going to someone who deserves your loving creativity. As for the "dude"...someone had your daughter's back. Be grateful, grieve, and pray for him.....then....get ready cuz someone groovy and righteous will be coming along.

Beautiful quilt top! I'd use a gray or silver thread most likely. Put a few strands of the colors you think you might like on the top and pick the one that looks best. That's what I do for almost all the tops I quilt.

Love the quilt. Really like the pattern. So thankful that your daughter found the truth out now before they married. The hurt will pass, and it is always harder when one is truly betrayed. This is a recent experience with my daughter and another loser. Both young ladies will be better off without the extra weight they were carrying around. DD's ex was constantly asking when I was going to make him a quilt, and telling me how much he liked the ones I had made her, glad I never found the time.

I like the concept of 'puddling' unspooled quilting thread on portions of your quilt to try out the color. I have done it many times and it is really revealing. It is true that gray can be deceiving (I find beige can be deceiving also). Try the gold, it might just add a read nice zing factor.
