What a hard decision!!! I have to agree that it seemed to pop more for me with the gold border.

sharon1 10-15-2012 07:39 AM

Add the gold it helps set it off:> What a pretty quilt!

wendiq 10-15-2012 07:43 AM

I think a lot of your decision should be about what size you want. I do like it done with the gold, but, I, too, would bind it in gold then. However, it also looks nice just leaving it finished with the green and green biniding. How large do you want it to finish at? That would be my concern as both borders look nice. However, I would bind with the same color as the final border.

wildyard 10-15-2012 07:44 AM

LOL, I know you have already decided, and it will be a lovely quilt. I personally would want to go with drawing out the other colors in your blocks if I had enough fabric. Perhaps a narrow blue border then a wider burgandy. There are so many ways to border and bind our quilts!! Your blocks are wonderful and I agree that the wide gold pulls the eye away from them too much. Hugs and smiles and happy quilting!!!

northerncreations 10-15-2012 07:46 AM

I agree with grann of 6.... green highlights the entire quilt -- I think adding the gold emphasizes the framing of each square pattern. It's your quilt and your creative juices -- do what you are most comfortable with.

Sometimes I will leave it lay out for a day or two and look at it from many angles as I go about my day, but I really would like to finish the top today so I can ship it out to the LAer. Plus that is one more UFO off the "books".

Personally, I like more than one border.

Landers 10-15-2012 08:43 AM

I like the additional gold border. It really makes if looks "grand".

sewmo 10-15-2012 08:49 AM

It may already be done by now....but to me the wide gold outer border takes my eye to the gold sashing whereas the green outer border takes my eye to the lovely blocks. I like the green.

grammyj 10-15-2012 09:49 AM

Love it with the gold border !!

sahm4605 10-15-2012 09:56 AM

i am an odd duck and say skip the yellow and maybe do the purple or the blue that is in the blocks. you have the gold sashing and i think that it will take and put too much emphasis on the sashing. I would do a second(third really) boarder. maybe even border in the one you don't use so you are not repeating any lines in the quilt like with the gold border. but this is just me. it will help pull and draw on the other colors in the quilt.

Rose_P 10-15-2012 10:21 AM

I strongly favor just the green border with a green binding, possibly in a shade darker. The gold goes with it all right, but it draws the eye away from the blocks.

carolynjo 10-15-2012 10:38 AM

I vote to add the gold border but bind it with the green. Pretty quilt!

topstitch 10-15-2012 01:25 PM

I agree, It looks green without the extra border and gold with it. Both versions are beautiful!

I vote 2nd. border.
Beautiful job.

SharonCase 10-15-2012 03:17 PM

Seems to me there are two things to consider... Color-wise, do you want it to be the green quilt or the gold one. Also, do you need the additional size.

I think he primary color is already the gold.. I would add the gold border, as it is a repeat of the color of the borders of the internal blocks. Balances it in my mind.

I like it with one boarder - the gold is too much

Mazda 10-15-2012 05:16 PM

I like the gold.

Handcraftsbyjen 10-15-2012 05:22 PM

I like it with just the green and then bind it in gold.

linmid 10-15-2012 05:25 PM

I vote to definitely add the gold border it really completes the quilt. Wonderful colors and job.

Grandma Cindy 10-15-2012 06:25 PM

Both are beautiful, question is, do you need it to be bigger or not?

nls 10-15-2012 07:02 PM

I like it with the green border and green binding.

ctipton 10-15-2012 07:32 PM

oh dear oh dear oh dear what to do what to do what to do I really like them both also so sorry for not helping

GailG 10-15-2012 07:38 PM

I've only had enough time to read a few pages, so don't know if this idea was given (probably not, because it is weird). IMHO I would stop at the green border and use the very bright blue for binding. I think the added yellow is too much. I think the blue would bring out the beautiful blue in the blocks. But as someone said, it all depends on what color you want to showcase. Good luck. It's a beautiful quilt top.

QuickStitch 10-15-2012 08:05 PM

I'm not sure if I any help or not as I like them both ways. Each way gives the quilt a different perspective so I think either way would look gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

GeeGee 10-15-2012 09:11 PM

I would do a piano outer border using all the fabrics in the center of the quilt and bind with green. I'm sure it will be lovely whatever way you choose.

I think the gold border makes the gold sashing stand out, whereas the green border makes the blocks stand out. I would bind it to match whatever you choose for the last border.

I agree. I like just the green. And I'd stick with the green binding. The blocks are beautiful, but too much of the gold will overpower them.

Pauline Bouchard 10-16-2012 02:33 AM

I think the extra gold border makes it pop. Good Luck

Wildyard, you got me thinking so I called several of the quilt shops that were part of the shop hop and tracked down some of the blue and the burgandy. I'm going to "test drive" your suggestion as I think it will highlight those colors in the blocks. Thanks for tweaking my brain.

JBeamer 10-16-2012 02:59 AM

I like it with the two gold borders. But it beautiful either way. Great job.

I agree with Deborahless!

mummadee 10-16-2012 03:27 AM

It's a beautiful quilt, love the colors. I think that I like it better with just the green border.

DOTTYMO 10-16-2012 03:28 AM

How about a faux strip in your bindin giving a small flask of gold then the green. Look at angie qiuilt blog it is there some where. Enjoy

joyce j 10-16-2012 04:10 AM

The gold brings it alive, love it.

gabdr 10-16-2012 04:29 AM

Just my opinion, but I like it better with just the green. It lets the center be the star.

Sewfine 10-16-2012 04:50 AM

Beautiful quilt. I like it with the gold border added.

Lucy90 10-16-2012 05:05 AM

I like it with the gold border. It does make it pop.

jstorm67 10-16-2012 06:08 AM

I like it with the green border and do the binding in gold. I think that would look awesome and different.

ctrimble 10-16-2012 06:50 AM

The second border add that final touch. But it is beautiful either way

Bluelady 10-16-2012 06:52 AM

I think the gold border really brightens up the quilt, gives it a wow factor!

Mariposa 10-16-2012 06:56 AM

It looks great with just the green! If you want it bigger, then add the gold. I agree with azwendyg.
