2nd border or not

2 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to decide wheter to add the gold border or leave it off. The binding will be the green.
Sometimes I will leave it lay out for a day or two and look at it from many angles as I go about my day, but I really would like to finish the top today so I can ship it out to the LAer. Plus that is one more UFO off the "books".

Quiltngolfer 10-14-2012 07:54 AM

Sunnie, I like it with the gold border added. Your colors are stunning. Beautiful quilt!

Deborahlees 10-14-2012 07:55 AM

I personally like to do every thing in odd numbers...I would go with only the green and I personally like my binding to match my last row of border.

DogHouseMom 10-14-2012 07:55 AM

I'm like you ... I'll leave these decisions in a conspicuous place to see it in different lights of the day.

that said ... I like it with the 2nd gold border :)

OR ... bind it in gold if you only use the single green border.

Louise Houghtaling 10-14-2012 08:00 AM

From the images provided, I got an instant impression that it just popped with the addition of the gold border. That said, I don't know if I would like the green binding. It is lovely either way.

HillCountryGal 10-14-2012 08:01 AM

Well, I'm no help. Cause it looks good to me both ways.

NanaCsews2 10-14-2012 08:01 AM

There are so many ways you can go with this that would all look great. The gold could be narrower and then the green binding. You could do narrow borders of the blue, burgundy and then the gold with the green binding (which pulls the gold out further as it is more pronounced in the quilt than the blue and burgundy). You could also leave as is and use the gold as the binding instead of a border. Very nice quilt and coloring.

Lori S 10-14-2012 08:03 AM

Just my opinion add the extra gold , but bind it in the same fabric.

grann of 6 10-14-2012 08:04 AM

Well, when I first looked at it, my eye was drawn to the center, with just the green border, but when I saw it with the gold, it drew me to the gold border more than to the center. I think I would have to look at it a few times too. I think I might like it with just the green border and then maybe binding it in the gold.

azwendyg 10-14-2012 08:05 AM

It looks great either way; just depends on whether the added size is important to you or not. If not, I'd stick with just the green.
Here's something regarding borders that really rings true for me... "A multicolor quilt will appear to be whatever color the border is." If you want a "green" quilt, leave it with just the green, if you want a "gold" quilt, add the gold border.

dunster 10-14-2012 08:07 AM

I really like the gold border. It would also make the quilt larger, more useful if you want it to be a lap quilt. But if you want to make it a wall quilt (and it's certainly pretty enough to go on the wall), smaller might be better.

alderdweller 10-14-2012 08:14 AM

Wow! It's beautiful either way, but I like the idea of just the green with a gold binding.

Dolphyngyrl 10-14-2012 08:14 AM

I like it with just the green

patchsamkim 10-14-2012 08:15 AM

Unless you are wanting the quilt larger, I would not add the gold border. Personally, I always prefer a darker border...kind of like the frame on a picture. Your quilt though, so whatever you prefer is what really counts.

thimblebug6000 10-14-2012 08:16 AM

I like the outside gold border, but then I would also bind it in the last border colour as well. It is a beautiful quilt top.

asimplelife 10-14-2012 08:17 AM

I like the gold... it seems to brighten/warm up the quilt. I have a hard time with deciding borders too... good idea to post pics, get some input and then let it sit for awhile. I almost always lay out my blocks, rearrange, then let them rest at least overnight. My DD used to be a great help as she has an eye for color but now she's away at college.

Helen S 10-14-2012 08:22 AM

Very pretty quilt!
I think the gold border makes the gold sashing stand out, whereas the green border makes the blocks stand out. I would bind it to match whatever you choose for the last border.

That's very interesting. I will have to remember it in the future when planning borders.

QuiltnNan 10-14-2012 08:59 AM

i like the gold border, but would make it closer to the size of the sashing

quiltsRfun 10-14-2012 09:07 AM

I like the green better. Maybe because I'm partial to green.

joyce888 10-14-2012 09:25 AM

I like it both ways. Do you already have the binding cut from the green? If not I would add the gold and bind it in the same gold. Whatever you choose it will be gorgeous.

QuiltnLady1 10-14-2012 09:27 AM

Both look great -- it depends on how large you want the quilt and what color you want the quilt to show most.

MTS 10-14-2012 09:55 AM

If it were my quilt, I wouldn't add the gold border.
When I opened the thread and just saw the first picture, my eyes went immediately to all of your blocks.
The green border really framed them nicely and made them the focus of the top. POP!

When I scrolled down and the 2nd picture came in view, ALL I saw was that gold border.
Totally stole the limelight from the blocks.

But that's just me.

I agree and was going to post something similar. The first picture with the green border showed a beautiful green quilt and your blocks stood out.
The second photo turned it into a gold quilt and the sashing became the prominent feature, and you lost the blocks.

Quite honestly if you are set on a larger size, I would pull one of darker colours from your blocks for a second border, but it really doesn't need it. Just the green is perfect.

nativetexan 10-14-2012 10:26 AM

Oh i love seeing the gold added. beautiful!!!

nannyrick 10-14-2012 10:51 AM

I like the gold border. It seems to stand out more. Just my humble opinion.

barny 10-14-2012 10:54 AM

Well, it just looks totally complete with the gold added. I love it. It is beautiful.

HMK 10-14-2012 11:00 AM

I prefer just the green border as my eye goes to your blocks. I found the added gold border was too shocking and bright for my taste and all I saw was gold and not your nice blocks.

lynndianne 10-14-2012 11:05 AM

I like just the green border...but, what do I know?

Lynn

javin22 10-14-2012 11:17 AM

Very pretty. LOVE the colors. I like the green for the border without the gold.

busy fingers 10-14-2012 11:35 AM

I guess it depends on how big you want the quilt. It looks good with just the green but if you want it bigger go for the gold. Either way it is going to be lovely.

patsynel 10-14-2012 12:04 PM

It is a beautiful quilt, I really like the gold border.

This is what I think too.

Someone said that they liked things in odd numbers - so do I, but I see a gold inner sash (1), the green border(2), and the gold outside border (3)...

I'd then bind it in gold, also. Looks like this isn't much help, huh??? :)

ging10ging 10-14-2012 12:55 PM

I think the gold made it stand out more. I liked it with the green because I like green but then the gold and it just made it for me. Ssue

ArtsyOne 10-14-2012 12:57 PM

We're a lot of help, right? I personally like my quilts to end up with a dark edge. Whether that edge is a dark border or a dark binding doesn't much matter.

maine ladybug 10-14-2012 01:05 PM

I would cut the gold border down a bit if I used it. And then I would use the gold for the binding too, not go back to the green. If I left the gold off I would bind in green. JMHO

Ioftheneedle 10-14-2012 01:32 PM

Very pretty. I think the gold border to finish is too much. I notice you have considerable amount of blue, had you thought of a blue border and binding in green?

I quit reading posts once I saw this reply. These are my thoughts exactly.

There sure is a split between the green/gold votes. They are so evenly split that I don't think it would sway me one way or the other. Best wishes on making your decision and please share the quilt with us when done!

I like the gold border. Very nice quilt. Love the colors.
