have any of you ladies used or bought a rule called add 1/4?
If so is it worth it to buy one? Quiltsru |
I bought the add-a-quarter and add-an-eighth. It took a while for me to start using it and after I did, I wondered why I waited. I use it on foundation-pieced blocks and it has earned its keep

I have one - I only ever used it when preparing patches for hand piecing...
I PP a lot, and have never bought one, didn't really need it :D:D:D
I love mine I bought an 18 inch and cut a 6 inch piece off with a hack saw so I have a 12 and 6 inch! I love it for paper piecing!!
For me: it makes paper piecing easier. Being able to see the 1/4 seem helped me alot.
I use it all the time when paper-piecing. Purchased the 6" one first, and then a 12" one. Lost the 12" and bought another one as I couldn't manage without it. Of course, found the first one after. LOL
I have the 6" and 12" and use them every time I do PPing - love them for that.
I have both the 6" and 12" for paper piecing but use the 12" more than the 6"
I have one, but used it years ago when I was making my own templates. Haven't used it since I stared rotary cutting.
Wouldn't want to live without it! Also have add 1/8.
My daughter has one - I want one. Need to buy one.
for paper piecing it is great! I have two. One long one.
Have 1/4" one and love it for paper piecing.
I have one I haven't yet used. Saw John Flynn using one to make straight lines in FMQ in his website video about his quilting frame. NEAT idea!

I paper piece alot & never used one
i went to Hancock fabrics to get a add 1/4 and the lady had no idea what I was talking about. Any ideas as to where I could get them?

I bought one but I really like to use my 12" ruler rather than the 1/4 in. I am taking a PP class and she suggested one. Wish I would not have purchased it.
Makes paper piecing a lot easier for me.

I have the 1/4 and the 1/8. Even though they don't get frequent use since I don't do a lot of PP, I appreciate having them available when I need them.
I got one as a freebie at a quilt shop and I use it frequently. It's only 6" long, but works great for trimming paper piecing projects, lining up my needle in inches vs. metrics, handy for lots of things. I keep it beside my machine. I use it more often than the seam ripper! LOL
I use them for paper piecing. I have both the 6" and 12" Once you learn how to use them you won't want to paper piece without them.
Yes, I have it and yes, I use it LOL, esp. when hand patching.
Mines still in the packaging. :/
I used it once during a class on paper peicing. But i could not see the sense it in. After the class I would just cut an eyeball 1/4". After all, it was never gonna show and as long as I had enough to sew what difference did it make? It was already sewn! Quilting Police, come and get me...
I have one and LOVE it!
I love mine,it is well worth the price for PP.
i use and love mine...i do alot of foundation piecing/paper piecing and it has made the whole process so much easier!
one of those tools i did n't think i would need, but am so happy i broke down and bought. whether or not it is (worth it) would i suppose depend on what you do....if you are a foundation piecer it is very worth it...if you do simple piecing it is probably not something you would find a use for |
What a wonderful tool it is. Makes the job faster and more accurate. I would not be without one for paper piecing.

I love my and 1/4 ruler. I use it with paper piecing and it makes it really easy for me. I think is worth the money plus more.
I never use it.
I just took a paper piecing class and that was on the supply list. Works Great! What is the 1/8" one used for? I haven't come accross anything calling for an 1/8" measure, but I am still new to this.
I don't have one. But I use a great trick I learned on Simply Quilts over 10 years ago (can't remember which quilter taught this)... Rubberband two pencils together, then use them to trace your pattern or template. Cut on the outside line, and you will have a 1/4" allowance. (People are So clever!)
It's a must for paper piecing.
If you are a paper piecer, they are invaluable. I just used it this past weekend at my annual quilting retreat and I love it!! Had never heard of them until a year ago when one of my friends who is a fantastic paper piecer taught me how to use it.
Like everyone else here...I use it when I trim in paper piecing...but you can trim without it as well. That is the only time I have used mine, but for that it really is the Bomb!
