Yes, I usually start at my stash. I then may want to add to the group for that particular project.
The last few quilts I have done, only one was with newly purchased fabrics. I pulled from my stash for the rest of 6 projects. Usually I have the backing fabric without buying anything.

It must be written in our DNA! :D

Nope, none of US have that problem. LOL Truthfully, I think that the majority of us have the same problem. LOL We could have worse addictions though.

Sometimes I think my hobby isn't quilting, it's BUYING quilting fabric, and quilting books, and quilting gizmos and, well, you get it.

Welcome to the club!! The owner of the LQS by me told me herself that I am definitely addicted to anything that has to do with quilting!!

I compensate by over-purchasing by half a yard sometimes on fabric I really like. I also save every imaginably useful scrap. It may be some years before I can go "stash shopping," but I'm okay with that.

Me too! I buy for the project that I'm going to make - up the amount of each fabric by 1/4 yard "just in case".

I love fabric too and tend to buy too often; but, I see something and think that would look good in a quilt and get it.

Yes, I should have told you I'm addicted to those things too, all the gadgets and gizmos and books. I also want to try just about every pattern I see. So many patterns, so little time.

Trouble is - it is hard to dive through the stash and feel guilty, and easy to just buy it and keep piling on the leftovers!

I keep telling myself - NO MORE - then some project has all but one or two materials - so down to Joann's to get it, then bring home 5 (not the ones I went in for) so back to the store till the budget goes dry!

I finally decided to only shop the going out of business clearance sales and auctions/garage sales, and ask for help if I have only one or two materials missing. So far, I've managed. I console myself with the thought that 95% is for charity, so eventually it will all work out. I finally started to Pay It Forward with others on the guild, again to cut down on the guilt. It helps!
