I am sad for you. I just can't believe this. No matter what, she should have called you before she cut off some of your border. :(

the long arm quilter should have told you what was expected too before you sent or took your quilt to her. being a new customer, i would have thought that would be her normal practice. Clearly she needs to do better too.

Think I'd insist that the LA'er remove the cut border and replace it with what you wanted! (At her expense, of course!)

Bet you were just heart-sick! {{{HUGS}}}

I think I would have a serious issue with that...

that is what I was thinking! I would be inclined to ask for my money back and never go back to her again- this is very serious!

How frustrating after all your work. Do you have any more of the fabric so that you could add additional border? I think you could do the QAYG system to make your quilt large enough. Then you could just do some straight quilting with an even feed foot.
I don't know if this would work or not...but just a suggestion.
Have you used this LA quilter before? She could have at least called you. Not very good business ethics.

WOW! Did she even offer you a discount because of this? I don't care how good she is or how much I like her work, I would not use her again. There are many other LA's out there that do amazing work.

A misunderstanding would be, for a hypothetical example, her using blue thread because you didn't elaborate that you wanted turquoise. This is not only unethical its just plain inconsiderate. Maybe her stitch work is good, but no decent long arm quilter in their right mind would cut beyond a trim to square up a customer's top. You made the top that size for a reason so it wasn't right of her to take 7" off YOUR quilt. Maybe it wasn't obvious to her that you sent in two sheets because one wouldn't be enough and maybe thought you sent a backup sheet. She still shouldn't had butchered your work! The right thing to do would have been to call you and say "The backing you sent is too short. I can't use this unless I were to cut your quilt top to fit". There could have been other options even if she wasn't willing to piece together the sheets after explaining that's why you sent in two sheets. She could of had sent the backing for you to piece or if she had backing fabric ask you if she could use that instead and just add the cost of the fabric to your bill (which paying a little more would have been a lot better than getting a quilt that came back shorter!)

I would just never use her again. Why risk the chance of having another quilt altered like that? There are other long arm quilters who would of had the decency to make that call.

i agree with this I believe it is my responsibly to piece my own backing but she should never have cut down your quilt without callling you to see what you wanted

No, that is unacceptable. She should have called you first.

No..not me..but one of my quilting buddies sent a quilt to a LA person..when she went to get it..she had changed the entire design..they had agreed on..and the color of the threads..it wasn't that it was bad..just wrong..she also charged her 25.00 more for this extra stitch she used..she said it was the quilter's prerogative ???? I think if it's your quilt and you have an agreement and you set a price..you should get what you ordered !!
