Thanks for the link.....such an interesting quilt. I am guessing it was a quilt as you go, and considering it's age and size I think the stitches coming adrift in just that area is a pretty minor thing when it comes to value. Yes Ladibug..."there's nothing new under the sun"....as my Nan used to say.

Don't discount the expertise of the appraisers on Roadshow. They are the experts in the field. They know history and and the availability and importance of the artifacts of the specific era as a total package. My personal opinion is that the AQS appraiser may not. Roadshow works with the best of the best.

The quilt was appraised at $12,000-$18,000. The insurance value was up to $25,000. Very unique quilt with the maritime images. 1867! Beautiful!!

There is a great book about the Antiques Roadshow. Very good read.

Perhaps an AQS appraiser was also involved in this appraisal. These appraisals are performed prior to the taping of the shows and often it is a team effort. Peckish, I agree with you, It would be interesting to hear what an AQS appraiser would say about this particular quilt.

I agree that the Roadshow experts are well qualified. However, I think that a certified quilt appraiser would probably provide lots more information specific to the quilt that we, as quilters, would enjoy learning. Quilt history is such an interesting subject!
