More than forty years ago I was doing some mending after a thunderstorm had passed, when another flash of lightening and almost immediate rumble of thunder caused a power surge and the needle went thouugh my left index finger. I had reached for the piece in the machine at just the wrong time. The needle hit the bone and bent to come out on the side of my finger, It didn't hurt, just made me mad at myself. However the needle bent and I could not remove my finger from the machine. I called my sister-in-law who was staying with me. When she saw what had happened she became hysterical. Her screaming brought my eight year old daughter who was calm enough to go to the tool box to get a wire cutter to break the needle with, I had to go to the Hospital to have the darned thing removed as I couldnt get it out and Kathy certainly was no help. I drove the eight miles by myself as I has a five week old baby girl at home and needed Kathy and Donna to care for her till I got back home. Funny thing...it never did hurt.

i was sewing a white prom dress for a friend and the needle went through the nail tip and the end of my finger. i looked at the white dress, at my finger, at the dress and YANKED. the inside of my finger came out and all the nerves screamed"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!" i sat there and thought i'd throw up, or faint, or die. not one drop of blood on the dress!

OWWWW!!! You guys are making my legs hurt with sympathy pains! I haven't done it yet, but I'll guess my turns a comin'! Generally I'm a slow sewer so maybe I can prevent it before it happens...

OMG!!! Ouch. Made my knees go weak. My mom did the same thing years ago. Took months to get the nail back. You poor thing. I feel so sorry for you. So not stupid, with good company!!!

The stories about cutting fingers with rotary cutters gives me the chills. At least I didn't have blood with the needle.

Yes, and obviously there are enough of us could start a special club! I did it several years ago as I was free motion quilting fabric for a roman shade about 11 PM. Didn't move my finger soon enough and the needle went straight through. Tried to pull it out but couldn't get it all. Kept insisting that it would be OK cause I didn't want to go to the ER so late! However between my DH insisting and the PAIN, I went. Believe me, I haven't done it again!

Oh yeah...been there...done that (more than once I hate to admit). You gotta watch those rotary cutters too - that was a three stitcher!!!
