With my Pfaff the needle has to be in a certain area, midway, and then it threads easily. Check your machine's booklet. I use the threader all the time, just wish my older machine had it.

Michellesews 10-29-2011 10:20 AM

Use them all the time on various machines. It could be the little needle that feeds through your needle to pick up your thread is not hitting the right place...make sure your needle is as high as it will go before using the threader. What type machine is it?

Always that is what keeps good tension on my SM

I have it on my little Janome Gem and my Pfaff. It is one of the best features on both of them.

memepat 10-29-2011 10:35 AM

If you get use to using it you will be lost without it... Mine was broken for a short time and really missed it.

sherian 10-29-2011 10:44 AM

I have a babylock my works great! At first I was not every time, dealer said thread should be tight, I was making it loose. I would give it a little thread to make sure it had
enough to work. It was not the case.
My old babylock was good but started having trouble and I
took it in the get once a year service and told them, he
put a new auto threader on it and bobbin winder on it.
It works good again. I bought a new machine before last service on old one.

My viking Designer 1 has had to have the needle threader repaired 3 times and I'm only using it for embroidery. It's currently not working again but the dealer left the state. The threaders on my Janomes work great and I use them all the time.

JeannieT 10-29-2011 10:53 AM

I use my every time on my Brother. I couldn't live without it. My Viking doesn't have one and that sucks to thread...my eyes aren't what they used to be. But I still love my Viking machine.

Faiwee 10-29-2011 10:55 AM

I have a Brother Machine and sometimes the needle threader works and sometimes it doesn't. or should I say some times I can work it and sometimes I can not.

I know that on my Brother machine, if I don't get the thread in the little hook just above the needle, it will not thread the needle. Ask me how I know this? My needle must also be up as high as it will go. I stop the machine, and hand advance, (toward me only) until the needle won't go any higher. Double check your manual to be sure you are doing right for that machine. I know, I know, but I just recently figured out that I was winding bobbins the wrong way for this machine. We are never too old to learn.

I use mine ALL the time. That was one of my main requests when I bought a new macnine. Maybe your needle isn't all the way up, try that.

lenette 10-29-2011 11:37 AM

I used mine when I first got the machine, but then started forgetting and couldn't get it to work. But I bought a needle inserter and threader in one that I use on occasion. I use the needle inserting part the most.

klgreene 10-29-2011 11:38 AM

I use mine all the time with a 90/14 needle, but can't with anything smaller. And the needle does have to be all the way up.

janquilts'ncrochets 10-29-2011 11:44 AM

I'm with you there. I've had my New Home for 20 years & I don't think I've ever had it work for me, so I gave up trying.

Sharonsews 10-29-2011 12:02 PM

Mine is on a Brother. You have to have the needle all the way up or it will not work. Good luck.

millivanillisask 10-29-2011 12:14 PM

I use mine all the time, after my husband tweeked it abit, the hook wasn't lining up with the eye of the needle, I have a Phaff 2048 machine.

Sew and Sew 10-29-2011 12:34 PM

Love mine..........use it non stop. What kind of machine do you have. One reason we bought my machine is for the self threading application............all i can say is wow..

I use mine every time I sew!

clsurz 10-29-2011 02:17 PM

Can't be bothered with it. Takes forever to learn to use it and I can thread it in just a second or two.

Lindsey 10-29-2011 02:19 PM

I use mine too ... they do have one for different size needles. I know the really small eye needs the one for the smaller needle.

CLMQuilter 10-29-2011 02:51 PM

I use mine all the time

tmjennings 10-29-2011 02:56 PM

I have problems with mine too. I have one on my long arm and it never works.

Happy Tails 10-29-2011 03:02 PM

I have a Babylock too and mine I just push a button....

AngieS 10-29-2011 03:04 PM

I've not ever figured out how to use it on my machines either. LOL!

matraina 10-29-2011 03:04 PM

Connie, I'm just like you. At first I was determined to get the hang of it but I didn't feel like waiting months or years, so I thread by hand.

grandma Janice 10-29-2011 03:27 PM

I can't figure mine out either.

DonnaB 10-29-2011 03:32 PM

Use mine all the time, couldn't see the needle anymore to thread it anyway.

shrabar 10-29-2011 03:34 PM

the little hook that catches your thread could be bent very easy to bend it .then it doesn't go in the eye of the needle.

Dianne Douglas 10-29-2011 03:42 PM

go to one size bigger needle. I had that problem and did that and went to top stich neddles

Char 10-29-2011 03:57 PM

me too! :D :D :D

Debbie B 10-29-2011 03:58 PM

I think I may have broken mine. I used to use it ALL the time, but lately I can't seem to get the thread to hook & pull through. So, I gave up and now thread the needle myself. Someone told me that the automatic threaders are like the lighters on gas grills...eventually they quit working.

Ga Gigi 10-29-2011 04:00 PM

will have to try that I too have problems.....

Maybe I'll try that with mine! I can't seem to "get it" when I try to thread it...thanks!

jlwheart 10-29-2011 04:05 PM

I had lots of problems getting mine to work on my Viking Designer I. Then I did 2 things: manually moved the wheel to put the needle in the highest position and loosened my grasp on my thread and now no problems; threads every time! Yeah because I was really getting tired of replacing those little wire needle threaders. Sometimes its the smallest stuff that makes the biggest difference.

MS quilter 10-29-2011 04:06 PM

Love mine - now if it just beeped when the bobbin runs out.

catladyquilts 10-29-2011 04:14 PM

it depends on which machine I am using. the one in my sewing room I use the threader all the time, the one I take to class doesn't work very well

theoldgraymare 10-29-2011 04:23 PM

I really liked the threader on my Brother, but it doesn't work at all anymore. It seems as if the tiny hook has somehow been smoothed over, filed down, or something like that; it just won't hook anymore, and believe me, I have tried and tried!
