I wouldn't have a machine that didn't have a threader.
Perhaps you just need to push the needle to the right just a tad with your finger while working with the threader, I found mine is 'off' just a hair and this works great.

CAS49OR 10-29-2011 04:54 PM

I used to use the one on my Janome. I found out the needle had to be all the way up for it to work. I bent it, so I removed it. I have tried the one on my new Brother but it seems a bother (lol, that was a rhyme!)

In any case, a tip I love is that all needles have a groove above the eye. You do not need to be able to see well to insert the thread. Just push it against the needle slightly above the eye, it slides right in. Works great for me!

Joeysnana 10-29-2011 04:56 PM

I have a Janome 6600 and 3 Brother embroidery machines and they all have the automatic threader. Thank goodness, because these old eyes cannot see that little needle eye any more!

nonnie60 10-29-2011 05:09 PM

I have a Brother and use mine all the time. Works great. I had a singer and never could get the darn thing to work.

mary quilting 10-29-2011 05:09 PM

I use mine

sammy89 10-29-2011 05:14 PM

use mine all the time, had problems once was wrong brand of needles then it wont work

annpryor 10-29-2011 05:24 PM

If you look very closely there is a little hook on the threader that you have to catch your thread on. Find it and you will have no more trouble.

BarbZ 10-29-2011 05:42 PM

by the time i get the thread on the thingy right and then pull it thru and straighten the thread i can thread it by hand 4 times. LOL hardly ever use it. but love my 6600 stop/start button.

Dyan 10-29-2011 05:44 PM

I have a Janome 6600 and I can't figure it out FRUSTRATING...I had a Pfaff 1473 and it worked perfect....

love to sew 10-29-2011 05:50 PM

Use mine every time.

Nancy Hanks 10-29-2011 06:33 PM

Love my threader. I can never get my glaasses adjusted right to thread the needle.

Homemother 10-29-2011 06:34 PM

btw: it took me a lot of practice to master my threader. Even when it takes me three or four times to thread the needle, it is much easier on me if I use the threader. :)

susie0808 10-29-2011 06:39 PM

I don't use mine.

The one on my machine, which is just like the one on my daughter's machine, was misaligned at the factory and has never worked properly. My daughter's works like a charm. The point is, it may not be your fault. It may be a problem with the machine. froggyintexas

I can't do it on my Singer or Brother. I did it once and from then on I do it the squint eye method.

Barbara Ogden 10-29-2011 06:56 PM

You probably can get it fixes for about $15.

jdiane318 10-29-2011 07:00 PM

All of my Janome's have the best needle threaders, hands down. Not a problem. Saves me from having to get my glasses to thread and saves a few choice words as well as time.

connie_1936 10-29-2011 07:26 PM

have a babylock and couldn't sew without the threader, bad close vision even with my glasses

penski 10-29-2011 07:33 PM

i always use mine ,i would be lost without it

Snappy 10-29-2011 07:39 PM

Make sure the needle eye and little piece that catches the thread are lined up. I had to get my service guy to show me and it's a breeze.

grammysonya 10-29-2011 08:39 PM

Me too :-(

I always use mine. On my Bernina there is a tiny, very thin hook that goes in the hole of the needle to catch the thread and pull it through. It easily gets bent and doesn't go into the hole of the needle like it should. I have to adjust mine every so often. Have to get the magnifying glass to do it.

loved it on my sapphire but it doesn't work anymore. i need to get to the machine doctor and find out why it won't line up to thread the needle. i miss that thing.

sewbeadit 10-30-2011 12:15 AM

I never use mine.

scrappy2 10-30-2011 03:28 AM

I use mine all the time!!

Anna O 10-30-2011 06:48 AM

Trying to use mine just frustrates me. The old fashion way works just fine!

Rann 10-30-2011 07:51 AM

I have a Designer SE but it only threads certain sizes of needles.

I go through the exact same process as you. Useless feature as far as I'm concerned.

tmw 10-30-2011 08:46 AM

i can't use mine either , and i've tried time and time again.

Grace MooreLinker 10-30-2011 12:10 PM

I have a Brothers and Singer that have the auto threader, used them always.

sandwich child 10-30-2011 12:50 PM

When I had this problem consistently, I finally went to the vendor and they said I wasn't slamming the lever down hard enough. Now it works fine - most of the time.

Connie Rae 10-30-2011 12:50 PM

My machine is a Brother CS 6000i

sylvia77 10-30-2011 02:14 PM

Your self threaded could be bent or something like that. I use mine all the time.

tupoms 10-30-2011 02:18 PM

I have a Brother CS6000 and a Janome 9700. I use the needle threader all the time. Wish I had one on my LA. It did take me a little while to realize the needle had to be in the up position just right for it to catch.

lgc 10-30-2011 02:50 PM

Every time. I wouldn't even look at a new machine if it doesn't have one.

raynhamquilter 10-30-2011 03:59 PM

Thank you, you guys are such a big help. I have been having an on/off relationship with the threader on my Janome 10001. Got out my magnifying glass and lo and behold I could see the the pushy thingy and now I GET IT, and it is working great!

bjdemir 10-30-2011 07:21 PM

I have used the one on my Pfaff for the last at least 30 years and luckily, both by Brother and Janome also have needle threaders or I would be in BIG trouble. Love mine.
