I do mostly meandering. I can do a respectable job with it.

Of course it's ok to do only basic stippling on your quilts. Some people never get past stitch in the ditch quilting. I suspect that after you do a few quilts with all stippling, you will get better at then doing other designs. Good luck.

At the moment, I only do SITD on quilts. However, I have done meandering on a few placemats and purses. I don't see myself progressing beyond meandering. I like my quilts floppy too!

I do stippling and meandering - great way to learn control of the needle for free motion. I branched out a bit after a while, and now do swirls and shells free motion. Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine. If I can do it, anybody can do it!!

If your are happy with what you do then enjoy it and don't worry. if you do ever want to expand your talent try this . Make several 15" square quilt sandwhiches from scraps and practice on them using different overall FMQ designs. You never know if you never try. LOL & peace

Meandering and stippling are a great way to progress in your quilting. I also enjoy loop de loops! I can loop de loop with a star, or a heart or a leaf or a flower or a cloud, etc.

My next designs are wandering loops, then wandering loops with simple flowers, and wandering loops with hearts.

Just loosen up and practice. There is always marking stencils and following the lines.
