I purchased one at Joanns with a 50% off coupon - got it for $7.50 - you can attach it anywhere to the machine with the double side tape it comes with, then bend it to put the light where you need it.

I have one and I love it. These eyes of mine are getting old! I got an extra attachment so I can move it to another machine.

I have a clamp-on Ott light for my machine, and I LOVE it, and because it's a clamp on it doesn't take up any valuable work space. I'm able to easily adjust the light to where I need it. I actually just ordered a gooseneck Ott light for my table in the living room for hand quilting. GREAT price at $19.99. I really think a good light is essential to prevent eye strain and headaches. I can't quilt any length of time without it!

Next time you're in JoAnn's or Michael's go to the floral department. They have little LED lights that are about 1" square and give an amazing amount of light in a concentrated spot. They are meant to put in floral displays and can be used in water. I stuck one right down at the base of the machine arm to shine on the needle. These lights are disposable, come in colors but for this purpose I bought white. There's a little tab on the side to turn it on and off and it seems to last for a long, long time.

I have the bendable Brite Lite and really like it. I can really zero in on the stitches. I also have one of the cheaper lights and am not sure where I got it. It is OK, but the Brite Lite is great.

I purchased a 24" bendable electric light that extends from a base. 9.99 at Ikea. They have many options to choose from.
i have one and love it, the only problem is you have to put the cord somewhere, they give you little hooks to put on your machine to thread the cord thru, but i found these broke off pretty easily, so now the cord just lies there and sometimes it gets tangled with the fabric if you are not careful, but i love the light being right there........
I have one and absolutely love it! It is removable so when I cart my machine around I can cover it and then put the light back on when I set up my machine. Best investment I've made in a long time.
I LOVE my bendable bright light! Don't know what I did without it.
I do have the light.
I have mixed thoughts. My machine is in a cabinet that has no support under the machine so it bounces the light. I used tape to hold it in place. The bulb gets warm It helps light the area by my needle well My Ott light does the work when I am matching patches but the little light does the work for threading my needle. Once my machine is sewing I am never looking in the area where the light is shining. |
there crappy it keeps falling off as you sew got a bendable lite at wal mart and used velcro works great can move it out of way or where I need it

I LOVE mine! My eyes aren't what they used to be & this helps a lot. I got it when they 1st came out. Don't know what I'd do without it.
Mine is a clip-on and it certainly helps when I am sewing dark fabrics. It wasn't expensive so I thought it wouldn't be as good as my friends' stick-ons, but it works perfectly fine, and I can use it all around the house, or take it to our sew days.

I have sight in only one eye and that is a cornea transplant. I have a halogen clamp on light on each machine which I bought about six years ago, They do get hot and need to be turned off when not in use, but I absolutely love them and they are out of the way of moving fabric.

I have the bendable bright light and without a doubt it is my favorite sewing accessory. This is what I LOVE about the light. To begin with it easily attaches to your sewing machine. You position the light to shine directly where you want it to. My light shines onto the fabric as it is feeding under the foot as well as in front of the foot. This light truly is bright and the area it covers is remarkable. One more feature that I enjoy is that it can be used on a second machine. In order to do this you do have to purchase an addition mounting bracket. These are inexpensive and can be purchased for about $10.00. So I can remove the light from my “big” sewing machine and put it on the smaller one I am using in a quilting class. I prefer this light over the OTT lights because they are attached to the machine so no addition al space is needed.
Even with my new Janome Horizon sewing machine, which offers more light than any machine I am familiar with, I use the Bendable Bright Light The Horizon does not have any light that shines in front of the machine, which is where you feed the fabric in. With the Bendable Bright Light I can have light on the fabric just before I begin to sew. I hope I am explaining this correctly. Now I know I probably sound like a salesperson for this product, I’m not. I am just so pleased with this product I want to share it with everyone. This last bit of info could help you make up your mind about purchasing one. You can buy it for $25 plus shipping from Quilting-Warehouse.com . http://www.quilting-warehouse.com/ The additional mounting bracket is on sale. This is a great website and I have used them. Or you can go to www.thefind.com then enter the product you are searching for and they will show you what companies have them and their price. Hope this helps you. Glenda :D |
I bought one at joanns with my 40% off coupon, it was priced at 15.99. It would not attach to my sewing machine, so it is lodged in a container I keep next to my machine, but I don't feel it gives off much light even though they are L.E.D. lights. I feel I wasted my money, but maybe the more expensive one would be worth it???? You do get what you pay for sometimes!!!!!
I have that wonderful little light and I don't know what I would do without it. It shines its light at just the right place and I go zipping along. I cannot understand why the sewing machine companies can't put efficient lighting on the machines. I think the machines are designed by MEN :XD: Now I'm not criticizing you men that quilt, I just think that women could design the things they have to use a whole lot better than men. After all, we women have to work around inefficiently manmade stuff all the time  We know what should be here and what should be there and what not there that should be! This applies to everything we use, the fridge, the stove, the sinks, Oh I'd better get off before I blow my stack!!!!!
I bought mine in Paducah last week. So it is new for me, but so far I like it as it does shine where you put it (right on the fabric).
Thanks Ladies. I find your questions and advice priceless.
LOVE it...bought my mother in law one too.....only thing...don't point the light at your needle...strobe light effect....point just before....again...LOVE it.
ok my question is does your light stay 'steady' when you sew
the one I purchased and no longer use giggles and moves when I sew (withe the motion of the machine) and drove me nuts. Are the 'better' one heavier so they stay steady or what.....I really would also like one....but kinda thought they were all the same. |
I love my bendible light, i have it on several machines. I have one light but ordered extra mounting kits, so that i can use it on several machines.
what about the ones for computers, especially laptops -- much cheaper
I don't have one that attaches to the machine, but have used bendable floor lamps before and absolutely LOVE them. So handy and easily portable.
this the one I have and I love it. I am working on a Dresden Fan and it great for SID between the blades.

I posted earlier that I have the bendable one that has been shown in several of the links provided here. While the light is good, sometimes it's too strong/bright and is beyond what is good for my eyes.
I do use it at times ... and to answer questions, I do not find it moves around while I sew. Stays put wherever I line it up. That is, til I knock it out of the way as I move fabric around! OOPS!! Wondering ... what about the small book lights? Have never had one, but just getting a little creative thinking here. Anyone use one? |
I have one for each of my machines and they are well worth the money.
I bought one recently and don't know how I lived without it.
Okay the only one I am finding at Walmart is $45.00. Here is the link to it, is this the one you are talking about, if so that is way to much to spend when you can find something else less expensive.

It's not magnetic, there are tiny sticky-backed brackets to hold the wire (cord) and the back of the light is sticky.

I was hoping I wasn't the only one having problems with the lamp slipping down when using the machine "vigorously". But I agree, I love it anyway...enough that I just ordered a second one from the link one of the other ladies supplied.

I have one that I use on my older machine. It really helps to see, especially on dark colors. I did pay $40 for it, but I think it is overpriced.
Yes, I actually have 2 and I love them. I have one for each of my machines.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE mine! It doesn't have a magnet!
I have the little light that attaches and it is WONDERFUL !!! I wouldn't be without it !! Really, really helps.... esp. with dark fabrics........ it truly is amazing the difference it makes. And you can shine it directly on the foot itself... such a help! Buy it and don't look back !!

I have the bendable light. I got it for 35.00. It is great. I love it.
