Well, I'm not done but the biggest I've ever done I am working on now. It is a hand pieced, hand quilted king size quilt for our bed. I'm using quilt as you go method so I won't have such a huge quilt to quilt in the end.
|
I did a Jacobs ladder quilt for my daughter's wedding in burgandy and white it was stunning , even if I say so myself , it took me weeks to make , 134" x 134" , it is my
pride and joy . |
My biggest quilt so far has been one I made for our king size bed. It is my first bed size quilt and took a long, long time to finish because I was afraid to try to quilt it on my sewing machine and I was right. When I tried I made a mess so I ended up taking all the stitches out and taking my quilt to a professional with a long arm quilting machine, so that also makes it the most expensive project so far. Yesterday I stitched the binding on top and as soon as I finish hand stitching it on the back I will post a photo.
|
The biggest I have done is 12X12....the hardest I have done is a king sized drunkards path, but just because the blocks were the same and it was boring.
|
I just completed a King Size Lone Star for one of my son's and his wife for their bed. This was my 4th quilt to make and I thought the sewing room was filled with material by the time I got the final border on it. It is at the quilters right now---she thinks it will be $200.00 to quilt it--the material cost was around $250.00 and then the labor. It will be a labor of love though. When they saw the one I had made for my grandson they wanted one. I'm very proud that I could make it BUT I doubt if I ever make another King Size. Ha!
|
The biggest and most expensive quilt I made was a king-size Convergence quilt for the bed in our guest room. I was amazed how easy it went together. I think I was just focusing on the finished product and kept thinking at each stage how daunting it would be. I was very pleased with the results and I'm thinking of starting another king quilt soon.
|
Mine was only a queen, BUT I had some 70 T-shirts to put on it and they were all different sizes. So, I put T-shirts on both sides of the quilt. All I know is I didn't charge enough to make it!
|
The one I just finished is the biggest - double bed size (or it used to be, before it shrunk 4" ugh), biggest cost, took me the longest, etc., definitely my biggest, to date. And it is *nothing* compared to the king size I'm planning, and the one I'm drafting up for my husband (which will be 1" squares for a good part, and queen size) which will make it my most labour intensive. The King I'm going to QAYG, I don't know if I'll be able to for hubby's, because of the layout, but I'm going to try.

Sadie Mae.I was wanting to do one with batiks later on.I am still not sure if I will like working with them either. Some that I have seen on here are really pretty. My largest quilt was a t- shirt quilt.Queen size.

Cal King just shy of 120x120. It was one of my first quilts and the only one I had long arm quilted. It was probably also my most expensive quilt as it is mostly Hoffman fabrics and I had it long arm quilted instead of doing it myself.

Just had a civil war queen size custom quilted by a longarmer. But well worth it.
|
Beautiful quilt!
|
the largest I remember is queen size - two of them, and all but the backing and borders were from stash.
|
that is beautiful!!!!!

My DH kept complaining that no one ever made a quilt big enough to actually use on a bed. So I am making a king size quilt with golf fabrics for him. It is about 100X100, 49 D9P blocks. I machine pieced it, but I am hand qilting it right now. My next priject will be something small, like a table runner!
|
I made a Ca king sized quilt, but went a step further and made it long enough and wide enough to be a bedspread. Don't ask me measurements because by the time I got that big I just wanted it done. The only good thing about it was it had buttons instead of quilting, it was in a mag I got a few yrs ago. I knew if I made one that big there would be no way I could quilt it, so I used that pattern and love it. But it was a job and a half.

My biggest project now is a queen size with batiks. Not because of the size, but because I was stupid enough to listen to other people saying, "Wouldn't this fabric be pretty?" NOT!!! They are too dark for my taste and not enough contrast for my taste. It is definitely one that I won't keep, and it is taking me forever because I don't want to do it. |
by size no - by complex yes - hand piecing and hand quilting a Dear Jane quilt - not once but twice! first one completely finished and in the hands of dd#1 second one almost finishing hand piecing it and eventually will go to dd#2 after I hand quilt it. photos here and there on my blog - look at the column on the left sidebar for "Insanity" and "Insanity Revisited" my names for these two quilts. I figured I must be insane to do Dear Jane by hand

I have made 2 king size quilts and gave both of them away. My friend goes to the thrift store everyday and they give fabric away, she brings it to me most of the time it's not cotton and she says to me you can make me a king size quilt and I say I don't think so. I gave her a queen size last year...
|
One of my first quilts was a king for my son. He picked the pattern and fabric. All primary colors with lots of black and all squares were triangles. That was before I learned about stretching on the bias in quilts. Clothes I know. Quilts then, nada. It took me three months to recover before I tried another quilt. Didn't have this board then for answers.

The last quilt I made was the largest Art Quilt so far. 63" wide X 72" tall. It was made up of 6 paper pieced circles each having 220 pieces. Two of the circles were fused, since the pieces were too small to sew together. These were set on point and other fabric added in to make the whole thing rectangular. I fmq the whole thing on my sewing machine. The whole thing took me 6 months to make. I've one side of a queen duvet cover made. The blocks pieced but not sewn together yet. Hope to piece the other side this winter and get it sewn together so we can use it, before winter's over. Some type of window covering (valence) needs to be made also, to go with both sides, which are similar colors but different fabrics.

That is beautiful....wish it was mine!

check out my blooming nine patch at this link. By the time I got it finished I couldn't stand it -- still don't like it. I really enjoyed the process though, but it took on a life of its own and although I loved the fabrics, I ruined it with that danged center! The recipient loved it! rusty

In 2006 I joined the Thimbleberry Club at my quilt shop and made the BOM "Vintage" queen sized quilt. Each block was embroidered, then machine pieced and I am still hand quilting it. The quilt plan that year was to make 2 blocks each month, different set up for the back to make it reversible. I made the second set into a lap quilt for my daughter. Had that one quilted at the shop so she would have it in this lifetime. They also basted the big quilt for me on the longarm. In the meantime, we bought a new bed, and I have to add another border, probably QAYG to finish it off, hopefully next year.

I made an oversized King black/white/red for my son...using thangles for the center of the blocks...mitered the corners to make it big enough since when I started it he only needed a queen and than bought a new bed before I was finished and bought a king...heheheh..it made it look very contempoary though...blessings

I am about to start a commission piece to fit a wall 12'8"wide x 17'long it will be a copy of a Picasso painting in fabric, I estimated $1200.00 for fabric. since this is huge, I will be sewing and quilting in panels.

My Garbage Can quilt 105" X 120",
4 queens for the grand kids for this Christmas, a 120" by 120" I am working on now, all hand quilted. J J |
My first was twin quilts - the pic are posted - D9P - and was like making four with that pattern. However, I loved every minute, just didnt realize what I had bitten off.
|
My biggest challenge was a Bargello, king size for my grandson's graduation. It was beautiful, and I was very proud, but am not certain I would ever consider that size again. Everyone says "Why so big?". My answer is only two sizes on the pattern, lap size and king size.
