Wow, I'd have to actually measure some to know the biggest. I have a couple that are the largest contenders, not sure if they are over 100" square or not but, my patriotic one is 100"x100" (I think). That one was kind of time consuming. Not sure but the No Diamonds In The Sky one might be bigger than that.

it's just standard practice for me to squeeze my quilts onto 200 count 109' wide muslin. and there for a while i couldn't fine the the 200 count muslin that was a little wider than that, so i would have to piece the back. i usually put a lot of work into the tops, and i really like the feel of that muslin on the backs.

The picture you see is 96X96. It was supposed to be a twin for my granddaughter to take to college but I fell in love with this pattern and it grew. She did not take it to college. I used all batik jewal tones for front and back and the cost soared to almost $600.00. I purchased the fabrics at a little quilt shop in Bentonville, Ar. And I used Superior King Tut and Precencia threads. Not cheap. This is only the third quilt I've done and I surprised even myself. My daughter repainted and designed the bedroom around this quilt. It is the bedcovering of a queen bed, hangs to the floor all around and covers the pillows like a bedspread. If I do say so, this quilt is awesome.

Mine has been a king sized quilt with all 1/2 square triangles - it is an exploding star. There is a total of over 2,000 pieces and if they are not turned exactly in the right direction, the pattern goes away. Its been a BEAR, but will be beautiful when done. ( SOMEDAY in the far, far, future)

I was commissioned to make a bedspread quilt for a California King...still have to quilt it (delivery is scheduled for February) and it is 118.5 square!

Started sewing the first of December, turned the machine off 1st of March had quilted two Queens one twin and pieced four king-sized quilts. Of course there was the 20 year quilt that I embroidered and put in a frame 20 years later to quilt. Was going to give the last one to my oldest child (a son) but his dog chewed a hole in the corner of a quilt I hand quilted for two winters. Am going to take that 20 year old quilt with me TO a better place.!!

Beautiful quilt. I used this same pattern for the corners of my son's Mariner's Compass. Yes it is a challenging pattern in that it is all small pieces. I found that if I sewed them into units first and then did strips rather than blocks it was easier. Did you do it this way or did you do whole blocks? Just curious! I have lots of pieces left, that I could make a wall hanging for my husband if I chose to. Nahhh!

I just finished my first King size quilt for my daughter. Big and lots of $$$$$$. It is at the quilter now. I can't wait to give it to my daughter and her husband for Christmas.

I made this king size in batiks for my best friend's wedding last year. At 110" square, it is by far my biggest to date:

The pic above is just the center of the top, before borders.

I love it. that is hysterical you should make it your screen name.

The biggest project I did had only 12 blocks, but they were blocks of each month. Each block had a house with the yards embellished with many different things. Like fences, mailboxes, clothes lines with clothes hanging on it, trees, bushes, chickens, pumpkins, snow, leaves, window boxes (w/flowers), curtains on the windows, etc. Everything had blanket stitching around it and much embroidery.Took about 2 years. Gave it to our oldest Granddaughter for a Christmas gift.

My biggest quilting project was not one quilt but 15 quilts. This was actually my first attempt at making a quilt (quilts)and took me 5 years to complete. Started out by wanting to make quilts for 4 grand children but as I taught myself how to piece and needle turn applique, the family continued to grow so I kept adding more quilts. That Christmas, not only did the original 4 grandkids get quilts but also my 4 children, husband, mother-in-law and 5 additional grandkids. All were 6 ft. by 8 ft. or larger, tied not machine quilted.
Had to make 2 more for the last of the grandkids which I gave them last Christmas. Pictures were posted here (Snoopy Stars and Double Pinwheel). Have most if not all the blocks done for another for my first great grand which I hope to finish for next Christmas. Ellie |
Working on a window quilt for our patio doors to keep the cold out this winter--about 90 x 120--all from decorator/upholstery samples. Most pieces are about 2-1/2 " by 5" or so.
It is HEAVY! Will not quilt it, or tie it--at least not now--just hang it with tabs, with the backing just sewn to it at the top with the tabs----it is just so hard to handle! |
I made one that is a super king . We have a waterbed frame and super king mattress on it and has drawers underneath so it is high off the floor. I wanted it to go down the sides and down the end. The backing was 9.00 a yard on sale . I have a lighthouse panel in the middle. I made sail boats in all corners and took cording and made anchors on it . It was very costly but after my significant other and I finished it , it is to heavy for Florida. Trish

Several years ago, and definitely dumber .... I machine pieced a king size
Broken Star quilt (cutting out each individual "diamond" shape, rather than the speedy strip piecing method). Then hand quilted within each diamond, and did Feathered Wreath on all plain blocks, plus cable quilting in border. All for $200 for a quilting "friend". |

My largest, and most expensive was the 110 x 112 "Happy Hearts" quilt that I custom fit to my new 4 poster bed. My brother was kind enough to paint my bedroom pale blue for me, it was a really dark burgundy, when bought the house. New bedroom, new color, must have new quilt! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

My largest quilt was a king size with animal skin prints. I don't have a record of the cost, but most of the fabrics were bought at quilt shops.

Finished my 120 x 120 Dresden Plate quilt last year. Absolutely love sleeping under it. Not only is it the biggest project I've ever done, it took 18 year to complete (and yes, I did all the quilting on my wonderful Bernina 440QE).

My biggest quilt is a king size 108x108 and it is a stack-n-whack 6" blocks when finished, still have to have it quilted as far as cost I don't want to know.

A couple of years back I finally made the quilt for our California King bed with 20" drops on all sides. I planned on it being quilted by check & it came out wonderful. I promised myself that was my biggest quilt @ 120 x 120. It was Atkinson's scrappy stars in blue, gold & white.
Last spring, a friend of a friend wanted a t-shirt quilt. I received 54 kids t-shirts that looked brand new. Either these kids got 2 shirts or thay sat on the bench for years! He wanted the front & back to be together. It took about 6 months but I finally finished that one too. It was 120 x 130. It also was professionally quilted. He loved it! I'm thru making big quilts! Big in the literal sense? Insanely expensive? Very complicated? Or perhaps a combination of all three? Interpret the question however you like. |
Wow! That's amazing! Great work!!

This would be the biggest quilt in size and I used around $300 in materials. It still has to be quilted but at least I am done buying and doing the piecing for it!! Did I mention this was done all on a treadle and will be quilted on a treadle also?!!?!?
The quilt measures 110"x 118" and will have scalloped edges on it. Billy |
My very sweet niece(7years old) once remarked longingly that one day she would have 100 cats. So I made her a 101 cats quilt using 102 different cat print fabrics (don't forget the backing). I still have more cat print fabric than you can shake a stick at! Very expensive collection!

My largest size so far is queen size. Have completed and gifted one, second is pieced only (an Around the World out of over 1500 2-1/2" squares) but it's mine and thus on the back burner for now while I debate whether or not to add a border or two.
My most frustrating (and heaviest) is the corduroy one that has given me such fits. I was going to do it as a log cabin with 8" centers and 2" strips. Discovered that some of the corduroy had a great deal of stretch and some had none at all...Ended up making rail fence blocks out of the shorter 2" strips and using the longer strips for the borders. It ended up as 9 x 9 random 8" squares on one side and a planned diamond pattern with the rail fence squares amongst the more or less random squares on the other side. I tied it with varigated ribbon yarn at the corners of each square. This is the machine pieced one. My most challenging is one that I started early on, have pieced, sandwiched and partially quilted, but haven't figured out how to achieve the 'look' I want within the blocks. It is from a lovely piece of metallic home decor fabric fussy cut so that the individual designs are featured in the various shadings of the fabric. In order to get some of colors, I used the reverse side of the fabric which of course does not show the black design clearly. I'm wanting to recreate that with my quilting, but so far haven't figured out how to get my stitching 'heavy' enough to look like I want it to. Will have to continue to experiment with various embroidery techniques. In the mean time I can continue to do the echo quilting on the sashing which is black satin poie de soie (sp???). If I ever get it finished it will be a large wall hanging as I don't think it will hold up to use as throw because of the amount of raveling coupled with my scant seams. The echo quilting on the sashing is designed to catch the edges of the seams which were all pressed to the sashing and thus hopefully reinforce them and limit the raveling. |
My biggest so far was 96" x 120". I made for my Dad. I didn't keep track of what it cost but I need to start doing that just for my own records
