I use 2.25 when the quilt is quilting cotton top and back, but if I'm using Minky, I'll switch to 2.5 inches.

2 1/4" for me....I like a smaller tighter binding on my quilts and table runners.

I usually let my binding be like another border. I cut it 6" or more wide. Double fold it and sew it like regular binding. The corners miter perfectly the wider the binding. If I want the small binding look I sew 1/2" topstitching around the binding. I get very creative with my bindings. I get a lot of how did you do that? LOL

It depends on the project and whether hand sewn or machine...either 2 1/2 or 2 1/4.

This is what I do also. However sometimes if I'm going with a single binding I will cut it 1 1/2".

I just bought a binder attachment for my Bernina. I am learning to use it so that I can machine bind...my fingers don't bend like they used to...biggest size is 1.5 inches....I am amazed at how nice it stitches...

I do a test stitching with a longer stitch for about six inches to get my "exact" needle setting.

It usually takes me two or three tries to "get it right."

I suppose I could do it on a "test sandwich" - but then I would miss out on all the unsewing I do on the actual quilt!

If the seam is too narrow, I can leave it - it will just be covered -
