I didn't think of that. What a good idea. I'm going to try that. Thanks for the idea and the compliment. :-)

stitchinwitch 07-01-2010 09:43 AM

And thank YOU Brenda, for participating - I think you will really like the NEXT challenge, too, and I am hoping you will try it!

Deborah12687 07-01-2010 10:34 AM

I would really like to do this challenge but I have no way of getting the picture posted right now. My camera flunked out on me and don't have the money to buy a new one till next week. Will opt in on the next challenge.

When you upload pictures and are finished, you need to eject the camera or memory stick on the computer, before you physically remove it. I don't know just which drop down you need to look for, but it will be there.

BrendaB, I love the pinecones and the other colors went together to. I'm going to work on my block this afternoon and see what comes.

Hi - here is another block I made - and you were right! The colors I have sewn are NOT the colors on the screen!!

BrendaB 07-01-2010 10:49 PM

Wow! Those colors really make the 3-D pop. This is so much fun. I will watch for the next challenge. :-) All the blocks are so interesting and different. They are all great! I can barely wait to finish work so I can check to see the newest posts. :-)

Andy323 07-02-2010 02:18 AM

This is a cool pattern! It makes a very striking block. This would be a great baby quilt...good job ladies!

mimiknoxtaylor 07-02-2010 02:45 AM

Just got home last night & leaving for our home in mountains this morning. Won't be home until late on the 6th but think I'll try to do a block even if it's not on the deadline. Look this, such a fun group!

It happens to ALL of us Annie - I guess practice makes perfect?? Someone had mentioned making a larger block, and then trimming down to size. Your block looks nice tho!

bdschafer 07-02-2010 06:54 AM

Hi, I had to try this block and did it both ways. I think I like the dark color in the center, as it shows the star better..
now how do I attach the picture?!?!

My thoughts exactly! I started one last night! What is that saying: Great minds think alike! I'll post pics when I finish it.

OMG!! They are scrumptious! Now - (are you good at math) how many combinations could one get with those colors, and the same pattern. Wouldn't that make a wonderful quilt - even baby's quilt??? Thank you for showing that!

janRN 07-02-2010 08:08 AM

This was a really good exercise in color and value. What a different appearance the block has depending on position of light/dark fabrics. I sometimes take a black & white photo to see contrast but this really helps too.
Great challenge!! All the blocks are pretty.

Here's what I did...made 1 block then started playing with the fabric. This has really helped me see how one pattern can look many diferent ways. Too bad I don't have more of this fabric to play with, I had to piece the center cream color to do this much. If I only used 2 colors I could come up with even more looks. I might do that yet. Very fun, thanks for starting this challenge!!

Yes, please do. It is so much fun to see what everyone comes up with. :-)

If it is off, I certainly can't tell. It turned out great!

BrendaB 07-02-2010 10:40 AM

Wow. Isn't it amazing how different the blocks can look just by changing the color placement. Great blocks!

BrendaB 07-02-2010 10:45 AM

It is amazing how different they can be. Thanks for showing us the alternates. I may never have thought to change that way.

Now, I have to work but I really wanna play with fabric and this block some more.

janRN 07-02-2010 11:00 AM

MaryMC: love your blocks and the different ways you put them together.

Well, since I have not read or seen any other postings, it looks like everyone has submitted their block?? They all look so great and was wondering if any of you had any preferance as to what pattern we would do next. I have thought of about 3 different ones, but not sure of which one to choose.

How about from the 12" blocks on www.quilterscache.com: Buckeye Beauty, Calico Puzzle, or Next Door Neighbor....all three look pretty easy and would do well with color value variations I think..

You never know how many more we might see before the 6th! I think you should just pick a block for us - that way there is no pressure on us, just you!!! Personally, I want to use the same colors & eventually put together a quilt with all of the blocks. But whatever everyone else decides is fine with me.

stitchinMamaw 07-03-2010 02:28 PM

I'm just learning to piece blocks , so please make it simple  Annie

Maride - Sewnsewer2 - fun2quilt - Marlys - Kate - Shopella - C.Cal Quilt Girl - Kellie G - Darcene - BrendaB - Stitchinmamma - Marymc - todallyroad. If you are still interested, tomorrow morning, you will find "2nd Block Challenge" posted. It is easy (for those of you that requested it) but challenging for those who would like to tweek it more. Dig out 2 to 6 coordinating colors that you like, and be ready to go another round. Notice, this time you can choose whatever combo that you think is pleasing to the eye. The challenge will end on July 20th.--C-YA tomorrow!

fun2quilt 07-06-2010 05:11 PM

That is such a tease.
Guess we just have to wait til tomorrow.:)

stitchinMamaw 07-06-2010 06:32 PM

me thinks " teacher " wants to keep us in suspence ! Is it this block or is it that block ? Well I've been waiting all day ! Hurry up ! Annie

mimiknoxtaylor 07-07-2010 04:13 AM

Well, I didn't get to quilt or piece at all over the holiday. Wound up with a house full in the mountains (7 adults & 5 grandkids). Got home last night & flying out to MI this morning to attend an uncle's funeral. Maybe the next block. (I did pick out fabric so I'll make this block when I get home for a couple of days).
