If you are up for it, how would you like to have a block challenge?? The rules? Do the above block, following the pattern - do just one or, if you want to try another - fine! The only colors you can pick from are off-white, black, pale green, peach and small print brown. You can "tweek" the pattern by putting the lights where the darks are, and vise-versa.

The idea came to me watching F&P Saturday. Lets see how many different varieties we can get using only ONE pattern and just rearranging the colors. Got it? Deadline to post YOUR block or blocks will be ....hm........July 6th! Are ya up to it??

dakotamaid 06-28-2010 05:37 AM

no time to sew, my sewing room is packed but I'm following this along to see the results!! :)

thequilterslink 06-28-2010 05:41 AM

sounds like fun, love the block, but i have to pass, too much going on right now. I am behind on everything, heading off to sew all day :)

luv-e 06-28-2010 05:45 AM

Don't take this personal but doing this over the 4th weekend, is going to be hard for some. Family coming in and everything. Maybe if you could give it till the next wk. It might work out better for most of us.
Just a thought. I like the idea!!

sewcrafty 06-28-2010 05:47 AM

I would love to do this, but I wouldn't be able to post anything. I've got graduation pictures on my camera and something happens everytime I try downloading pictures to my computer and the disk corrupts and I loose everything. Until I figure out something, no picture postings! Lost all kinds of great pictures of my son!!

raptureready 06-28-2010 05:57 AM

I'll be doing good to get my Funky Neighborhood blocks done by July 1st. After that I'm going to rest awhile. DD is going to church camp that weeks so ...... Sorry but at this time no, I just can't. Sounds like fun though.

Kate 06-28-2010 05:57 AM

I would go for it

Marlys 06-28-2010 06:21 AM

I will give it a try. Cool block!

mom-6 06-28-2010 06:49 AM

Don't think I have the peach and I don't dare go near another fabric shop anytime soon! May try substituting a pink/yellow print for the peach...

clem55 06-28-2010 07:26 AM

Sounds fun, like the block, but I've got family coming in on Thusday and staying for the first of the week. No time for anything but getting ready for them. Love having company, but did you ever notice that when you know guests are coming, suddenly everything looks so dirty? LOL Maybe I should clean more and QB a little less???! NAH!

ReRe 06-28-2010 07:43 AM

I love the block and plan on making it but I don't have those colors and can't go buy them. If the color choices were more open I could handle it.

stitchinwitch 06-28-2010 11:06 AM

I have cut out one block but need to go to the dentist and mayber will sew and scan by tomorrow. The purpose of this "exercise" is to see how, by keeping the colors at a minimum, but using the same block and switching them around - how many different looks we can get. If ya'll enjoy it, maybe we could do one every 2 weeks - with a BASIC design and a selection of not more than 5 color choices, whatcha think? - Happy sewing!

I would love to go for for it but I have to finish a special quilt for my stepson who is being called back to the Middle East. The first time he served in Iraq and we were so blessed that he came back without a scratch. He's been over here as a Drill Sgt. in MO for three years (I think); and they just moved him and the whole family (wife, two daughters, one son) to LA (they never quite get you to your home state) with notice that he would be shipping out to Afghanistan in August. He's heard it could be as late as late September, but I don't want to take any chances. I want to have the quilt done and ready for him in early August - just in case they decide to go early. That's the first thing he's asked me to do for him and that's the least I can do for someone who's defending my liberty! He and his wife are so sweet and I just love my three new grandchildren. My husband and I have only been together for three years, so I gained two more sons and a daughter, three granddaughters, and one more grandson. It's been great fun and Ben is the absolute love of my life!
Sorry I got off the subject! I also have to finish my 174 Siggy blocks and get them mailed off by July 15th. I keep getting sick and having to put them away for a day or two. Could you perhaps give us another week on this challenge? This block looks mighty interesting!

bronnyb 06-28-2010 12:55 PM

I'm not up to the challenge right at the moment, but I'd like to thank the OP for the link to another lovely site.
Oh dear!! What is a girl to do? So many choices - so little stitching time. I have to work to pay for the fabric, and then the family think that I should spend valuable stitching time, feeding, cleaning, hunting and gathering for them.....hmmmmm dilemma.

Thank you in any case, for contributing to my newest addiction.

I hate to see a challenge go not accepted, so I went into my scraps box and came up with this. It took me about 40 minutes, including the time spent selecting the colors. Not trimmed.

ToucanSam 06-28-2010 02:27 PM

Hmm....this could be interesting....lemme think about it. Glad you extended the deadline a bit, that helps!

Marlys 06-28-2010 02:28 PM

Holy Cow, Maride! I got the pattern printed out, but that's it! I was going to do it tomorrow, but I might have to get it done today. Good job - and you are an inspiration!

Looks good! Easy block, huh?

fun2quilt 06-28-2010 06:07 PM

Yup! very easy. Shouldn't take long at all to whip one out. Like Mirade said about 40 minutes including stash diving. Join in the fun!

stitchinwitch 06-28-2010 07:10 PM

WOW Maride!! It looks great and you are the first one! Remember everyone, you don't HAVE to use ALL the colors, just pick from the list, OK??

Yours have nice points! Good job!

GREAT job, fun2quilt! Nice arrangement! You gals are on the ball!

mimee4 06-29-2010 05:42 AM

Very nice pattern! I know we all have excuses and I do too. I am scheduled for jury duty. And that's the truthhhh.

Great quilt. That center square offers a lot of possibilities. In my mind, I can picture nine patch, four patch, hourglass, friendship star, checkerboard, yatayatayata...............

OK, here's my block. I have enough of these fabrics that I could make a lap quilt with sashings. What do you think? By the way, I only had to rip once - I hate it when I don't read directions. You would think after 20 years of quilting . . .

stitchinwitch 06-29-2010 11:09 AM

Marlys! Is that BLUE I see?? The block looks very nice - I finished min but then I looked and messed up! When I take the picture, oh,,,,you will see my mistake(S)! But - it IS coming - I promise!

Actually, it's not blue. It just looks that way in the picture. It is a very soft , pale green. I didn't cheat, really!!!

OK - THIS is one reason, one should NOT be on pain meds when one is sewing! There are so many mistakes - before the deadline, I hope they will be out of my system and can post a couple more!

Marlys 06-29-2010 11:40 AM

I love your B & W block! I understand what you mean though about the meds - they definitely make you see things a little different! Or maybe just not see things because of the fog! Are you going to do a whole quilt?

marymc 06-29-2010 11:43 AM

I'm in. I like these challenges because it helps me try new things. I love seeing what everyone else does with it. Thanks for starting this.

marymc 06-29-2010 11:45 AM

I like the idea of a new challenge every 2 weeks! Maybe the colors could coordinate so we end up with a sampler? Just an idea.

stitchinMamaw 06-29-2010 11:56 AM

Ok , I'll try one . Maybe it will turn out better than the last one I did !
Can I ask a question ? When pressing your seams , does it make a difference if you press them open ? My background is clothes construction and learned to press open . Now it's just automatic . Annie

No it not matter if pressed open, it seems to be the new trend to press seams open. Sort of like pre wash or not; press open or to one side.

brushandthimble 06-29-2010 12:15 PM

I'm thinking I may have to pass, I still have to make June's block and redo May's.
To much time spent here on the board. LOL
