By they way, I'm using the same block pattern, Army Star, for my 12 blocks, but the fabric may be a little different for each block. I'm using my blue stash also. I know I don't have enough of any particular fabric to turn out all 12. No problem with that, eh?

Thanks for the recipe Deb...and I hope there is no problem with using stash blues (different ones) on the blocks...that is my plan also

Thanks for that Marcia. I am in the same boat. My only Fall ritual is to go for a vacation week to the mountains!

Hows everyone else getting on with their stars? Am I the only one having trouble getting matching points? I'm unstitching the worse of the mismatches, but how perfect do they need to be?

Butterflyspain 10-12-2008 12:56 AM

Sazu, have no fear, I am right along with you. Have made two different stars so far, one ended up 11" and thought if I put a border on that would spoil the effect so started on another, couldnīt get the point to match, third one......almost finished the first star so plodding is all I can say.

I am sure by the time we get to the 11th star we will think what was all the fuss about.....hopefully LOL

I would think they need to be as perfect as you would want if they were all going into your own quilt...don't know about you, but I like for mine to match  Mind you, I haven't started on mine yet..I positive that I'll be having the exact same problems!!

Im not sure where you are having problems.. you might post a picture of your problem child and we give you some pointers.

If you are having trouble with the size,, ie the directions say you should have a 12 inch block and you are ending up with an 11 inch block, check your seam allowance. When piecing using traditional techniques, sew with a "scant" 1/4 inch seam. This means slightly less than 1/4 inch.

To test your seam allowance, cut (2) 2 inch squares and sew them together with 1/4 inch seam..press and remeasure.. The result should be exactly 3 1/2 inches... If not adjust.. Once you find the sweet spot, use it for your piecing..

If you are having trouble with points matching, you might try pinning..using the pin, line up the points, then pin ahead of the seams. Remember that your sewing machine tends to pull the bottom layer though the machine fasdter than the top, so pinning might help

I THINK I have decided on which star to make! These are not the fabrics I will be using but they will be close to these, I had to order so I havent got them yet. What do you think about this star?

Butterflyspain 10-12-2008 10:56 AM

That is really nice. I like the number of fabrics in this one. My star only as the one fabric, but each block will be a different fabric.

Looks really good.

This is really pretty. I have all my fabrics now, but I haven't decided on a star.

You Go Girl! What a great star!
