They are awesome. I have been using them for years. Wouldn't use anything else. Cheap too.
My sister gave me a package of 10 or 20 and they were called Bobbin bekinis I think.
Plastic tubing sounds like a good idea also. Where do you get the tubing?
They are so easy to slip on and off.No cutting or measuring.I did try the tubing, but I prefer the hair ties.I like the ready to use method.
I got the tubing at the local Ace hardware store. home depot etc should sell it to. Mary
maybe you could get it pre-packaged in fish department. for the pumps used for tank filter. probably cost more. Mary
I like the tubing better. It makes it easier to see the color through it. Also , you can still store them in your machine accessory tray when you are taking machine to classes. With the pony tail bands they don't fit in tray, at least mine doesn't. I guess that is why there is so many different tips, huh??

I am so excited to read this. I keep my bobbins in the plastic case they come in BUT the ends of the threads are always hanging loose. I store them in a storage shelf of my machine cabinet and every once in a while, I have a long bobbin thread hanging loose that gets wrapped around my foot and before I know it, i've drug 10 yards of thread throughout my house. This is the perfect remedy. Thanks.
they also work great for embroidery thread or regular sewing thread
What a great idea. My bobbin case is always in a mess.
I don't like to use these. At times it is hard to see the color of the thread. Instead, I use clear plastic tubing (from hardware store) 1/2 inch diameter -- cut in pieces to fit bobbin and make a slit to place it over thread. You can see the color and you can also write on it as to type, cotton, polyester, etc.
Yep, Thats what we are talking about. Very handy.
That is a great idea Carolyne.I never thought to use the ties on my sewing thread and embroidery thread. Thanks for that tip. That will fit real well since they stretch.Thanks.
I use the teenie, tiny rubberbands my son uses for his ponytail. (Don't ask!!! His barber threatens to cut if off every time he goes for a haircut!)
I understand quite well.My son also has a ponytail. He snags my bobbin covers( PONYTAIL BANDS) once in a while. Not so much anymore since I changed to pink and purple ones.
GREAT IDEA
which ever you like to use either tubing or pony tail bands you may want to put them in old prescription bottles. I read that tip on here also a couple weeks ago.You can use a different bottle for each color and write on them.Mary
Is the tubing harder to use if your fingers have joint problem? I like the hair band better as all u have to do is peek at it.
I have good old Arthur in my joints and I don't have a problem with the tubing.

Quilter's are the most clever people I've ever met. Not only do we think of great little tricks to make quilting easier we also think of thrifty problem solvers for ourselves and willingly share them with our fellow quilting addicted friends. I love this site...

I bought "bobbin gaurds" from a quilting cataloge and was shocked to see they were the hair thingies (love that name). They were very thin and stretched out of shape. I now go to dollar store or Wall Mart & buy them. They are cheaper. I try to match the hair thingies to the color of thread on the bobbin.
Great idea.

They work great.

The problem I ran into with these, was I could not tell what color of thread was on the bobbin once I put the pony tailer on. It covers the thread entirely........
I forgot to say that I have metal bobbins not clear plastic.
I use the same little thingies. When I was at the International Quilt Festival last year; they were charging an arm and a leg for them When I got home I found a ton of them at the Dollar Store. So I bought a few paks of them. Downside is that you Cant't see the color of the thread. Stacking the bobbin on top of the spool of thread would be helpful and keep the bobbins/spools organized by color.

Thanks for the tip - I will give it a try. Most of the holders are far too expensive. I did find a sort of bargain at our last quilt show - the holder that Nancy Zieman advertises is usually advertised at around the $60 mark and when I saw it for $24 I snapped it up. It works really well.
I saw these for sale on a material site really expensive, but it gave me the idea so I went to wal mart a bought a card of them to try. They work great like you said I got tired of the mess in my drawer and bobbin box.

Thank you for sharing that idea. God bless.
Thanks for sharing, this is a great idea. I also place a rubber band around my hand quilting thread. It allows you to pull some thread without letting it get out of control.
I had been using twist ties until recently. I'm using the pony tail holders now. I also heard about the tubing. I think I would like it better because you can see what color thread you have. I just haven't gotten to the hardware store lately.
Great Idea! Thanks for sharing!
