I use these little hair thingys for my bobbins. They work great.

mrspete 09-06-2010 04:57 AM

Pretty cool. I love it when we use what we have on hand. It just makes great sense!

Blessings,
Ruth

finch 09-06-2010 05:02 AM

Thank you mrspete. They really work great and they hold the thread in place so well. They are not expensive and I believe you can get them at the dollar tree or Big lots.

Chigger Holler Quilter 09-06-2010 05:39 AM

My bobbin threads have become manageable since I started using these. Thanks for thinking to post and share this with others!

Never would have thought of this what a great idea now I can't wait to go to the dollar store. Great timing as I am in the process of cleaning up my sewing room! Thanks so much!

finch 09-06-2010 07:18 AM

You are certainly welcome. They work really well for me.

DebbyT 09-06-2010 07:22 AM

Now I wish I didn't throw so many away when the kids left them all over the house. Now when I see them I will pick them up and to the sewing room they go.

I use small rubber bands. They work fine too.

jayelee 09-06-2010 08:27 AM

What a great idea Have alot of these on hand for the little ones hair

Scissor Queen 09-06-2010 09:10 AM

You can get a bag of 300 for a buck at Family Dollar. Dollar Tree and Dollar General don't have the big bags. I've been using them for a couple of years on my bobbins. Another big advantage is if you drop your bobbin with one of them on it it doesn't roll away.

tryitall 09-06-2010 11:01 AM

Great idea!

Bobbielinks 09-06-2010 11:10 AM

And they are really cute!

Quiltforme 09-06-2010 11:34 AM

I saw these for sale in the clotilde book and laughed because for the not sure 10$ price tag you can go to the dollar store and get 50 for a buck!! Thank you for posting this I have been meaning to try it out!

littlehud 09-06-2010 07:12 PM

What a great idea. I have tons of those around the house. ( they belong to DGD not me    )

I saw them in the catalog but didn't think they were that expensive....

Psychomomquilter 09-07-2010 03:41 AM

ok, I am not up to par with girl hair thingies.
my great nieces has some of these to put in her hair, are these the same things? sorry does sound kinda dumb, but I don't have any little girls hanging around me!(wish I did though)and small rubber bands placed around the bobbin, who would have guessed! I think I will go get a bag today!

finch 09-07-2010 03:47 AM

Psychomomquilter 09-07-2010 03:58 AM

T-Bones mom 09-07-2010 05:02 AM

Thank you so much. I have never been able to control my bobbin treads. I am going to my dollar store tomorrow.

finch 09-07-2010 05:05 AM

You are very welcome T-Bones mom.

stefanib123 09-07-2010 05:07 AM

Thanks for posting this, I would have never thought to use them.

finch 09-07-2010 05:11 AM

I have been using these for quite a while and I love them. They are not costly and they are pretty too!

ProudGranny5 09-07-2010 05:57 AM

Finch I use them too & have for years. Just never thought to post it on the board. Use to braid hubby's hair for work & would only use the black, so I had all the other colors to use. Now with 4 gds I still have them hanging around. Of course in my sewing room...all the pink, purple, & green ones are gone...LOL
Thanks for sharing the tip with everyone! :D

finch 09-07-2010 06:04 AM

Strangely enough,I never had any girls.Just one boy.But he used them on his hair and still does to prevent breakage.I love the pink ones with the silver glitter in them.

ProudGranny5 09-07-2010 06:44 AM

I get the cheap ones with no glitter. Love the idea of getting 300 of these little babies for a buck!

finch 09-07-2010 06:48 AM

That is one heck of a deal! Now I just need enough thread to wind on all of my bobbins!!

scowlkat 09-07-2010 05:55 PM

I also use them on my thread, especially my embroidery thread. Much cheaper and more convenient than using the thread wraps.

brookemarie19 09-07-2010 05:59 PM

I use these also....very cheap and work great, my kind of stuff

chamby 09-07-2010 07:26 PM

Aren't these great. I discovered these a while back. A lot cheaper than buying the same thing that was made just for bobbins.

annette1952 09-07-2010 07:35 PM

I use these all the time too. They really work well. I couldn't find them at my Dollar Stores but did find them at my WalMart

lillybeck 09-08-2010 05:02 AM

Why didn't I think od this? I always have these all over the place after the GDs have been here and I either throw them in a box or in the trash. I will use them now. Thanks.

featherweight 09-08-2010 05:29 AM

They have these at our LQS. Can you believe that they get .10 a piece for these little buggers? I got them at Walmart for really cheap.

katlady 09-08-2010 05:44 AM

so do I & they work great!!!

sheliab12 09-08-2010 06:11 AM

Wow great idea. I use them to put around the spools of thread to keep them from unwinding. Never thought about the bobbins. They are so cheap. I got a pak at the dollar store then did all mine and my friends too with some left over.

lawsonmugs 09-08-2010 07:45 AM

I used the ponytail holders also. then someone I think on here posted an idea about using clear plastic tubing. it's 3/8"-1/2" dia. tubing. you slice it into 1/4" slices then cut a slit through it up one side. so you have a ring that is split. the split slips over the bobbin and closes around the bobbin. you can still see exactly what color thread is in there because it is clear tubing. I bought 1 foot of tubing for 60 cents. makes approx. 48 holders. It's a pretty neat idea and they aren't as bulky. Mary

Jeandrig 09-08-2010 08:12 AM

Thanks for showing a picture, I was thinking the tiny rubber bans and saying those want work. But I can see these will. Thanks

penski 09-08-2010 08:23 AM

that is a great idea and i just happen to have a bag of them

nwm50 09-08-2010 08:24 AM
