Can you mix batik with regular quilt material?
I was going to do pumpkin apps out of the Batik material TIA Lisa |
You sure can!
I have done it and it came out good. Someone ask this the other day and several said they had also.
Yes, you mix them!
Only if you are wearing white shoes at the time. Of course, that is the beauty of creating - we can do whatever we want - can't wait to see it.
Yes! I do it all the time. I make sure not to use lower quality cottons with the batik though, as the better quality fabrics will hold up longer to the tight weaving of the batiks.
Check out these threads, Affairs of the Heart - most of us have used a regular cotton background, with batik applique!

I don't have any but, I would mix them if I had batiks. No quilt police here, maybe some wannabes.
.
Just be sure to wash them first, from what I've read here some of the colors run like they had heard the starting pistol!!!!
Shout!!! Shout!!! Be sure to use Shout. |
Absolutely. It will look lovely!!
No! Absolutely not! The police will get you, dont do it please!!!!!.....LOL
Thanks to all, I am washing fabric as we wright will post when I get a Little further in to my project
Lisa :) |
Sure you can mix it!
sure
I think if you want to, you can. However, I had a friend who mixed them and kind of struggled a bit. She used a jelly roll of batik and a jelly roll of regular quilting cotton, and said it took some skill and finesse to ensure the seams matched. Apparently there's a lot less stretch and give in the batiks than the regular cotton.
p.s. It might also depend on which batiks you're using. My friend's batiks were pretty stiff. I have some batiks that are softer and I wouldn't hesitate to mix them. |
It's your quilt, do whatever you want!
I tend to mix batiks with tonals rather than solids or distinct prints, but that is a personal preference.
I'm thinking the batik would be awesome for your pumpkins! |
Why yes, dahling! As Otis said "that is the beauty of creating". And have fun doing it.
I mixed them in my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. The other fabrics I used were blenders or near solids. Here's a link to it:

Yes, although I would suggest prewashing
No problem mixing as long as you prewash.
You sure can. Mixing them in with regulat quilt fabrics can really make some beautiful quilts.
Sure can!

Here are pic's of some done |
Of course you can....it's your quilt!!!
I have done it.
I love the mix of Batik and regular fabric - adds depth to the final project.
That's the beauty of being creative, do whatever you want.
I do it all the time.
sure, just make sure and wash the other fabrics really well first
You bet you can, I do it all the time!! :-)
I reckon you can do anything you set your mind to. anyway, That's what my mama always told me.
Of course you can mix.I have just started trip around the world and needed a pale it is a batik the only one of the 9 fabrics in the quilt it sews like any fabric and washes like any good one .I have also done the reverse where the batik was dominant and the fabric was in the minority I have done this for more than 15 years with no problems.Go for it.
Yep..do it all the time!!
Of course you can, and the results can be spectacular. They can sometimes be slightly heavier than regular quilting fabric, however, once they are pressed, they tend to stay that way longer, which is a trait I really like, besides the fabulous colors.
Absolutely! You can even mix them with silks, satins and other fabrics. I would not recommend mixing them with polyester fabrics because batiks need a hot iron and the poly will melt. You may need to take care when mixing them with fabrics other than quilting cottons with the ironing.
Yep just go for it.
No reason not to. Some people don't like to, but if you like the fabrics together, go for it!
its your fabric! I mix regular quilt fabrics with batiks all the time.
