Do you mean to suggest people CAN find their fabric all the time?
Wow, marvelous. I'll have to try that sometime. If I can remember where I put it. I can find my sewing machines all the time, which is a good start.

raggedyann 02-12-2011 08:32 PM

ugh! just yesterday! and boy did i make a mess!

mhansen6 02-12-2011 08:44 PM

Last weekend I completely tore my sewing room apart looking for a piece of fabric. All the fabric came out of the closets. It looked like a tornado of fabric. Never did find what I was looking for, but I did find 5 UFOs I totally forgot about.

liminanc 02-13-2011 02:52 AM

I am a firm believer in Gremlins. Happens lots, and the worst is when you go back and it is staring at you and you think I KNOW I looked there at least six times. lol

Jackie D 02-13-2011 03:49 AM

its under something

whinnytoo 02-13-2011 03:57 AM

Its the sewing room gremlins, they work at night refolding and hiding the exact fabric that I"ll be needing the next day

Yooper32 02-13-2011 04:07 AM

Since I moved in Nov. I have daily treasure hunts, most of which take much of my time and yield very little in results. I know that I have a piece of grass but have been on an eternal search for weeks now, off and on, and it still is in hiding. Clarify this: a piece of fabric that is all grass, nice lush grass. Probably thinks it is winter, why does she need me now, I will just stay hidden.

emerald46 02-13-2011 04:07 AM

Just last Wednesday...lol and it drives me crazy everytime.

I have a friend who swears she has a ghost that keeps messing things up in her sewing room. She has even named him George. Whenever something comes up missing she just blames it on George. Eventually the fabric or what ever is missing will show up so she then thanks George. It is a light hearted way to keep from driving herself nuts when things aren't going her way.

Beth Dishong 02-13-2011 04:12 AM

Yes it does. 2 weeks ago I spent literally 3 days tearing my room apart looking for 1 piece of fabric, could not find it. I gave up and bought another piece that I thought would work. Guess what? I found it the next day. It slipped down behind one of my stacks that I didn't totally remove from a shelf. I could just kick myself. Oh well, I still have it for something else now. Have a great day.

Barbm 02-13-2011 04:32 AM

I was looking for a pattern that I had printed from the net. I know I had it.... . But then Adult ADHD set in and I started playing in the patterns I had printed. Organized them. (guess what, I recalled the name differently than what it was, so I was going past it)

Fabric- yep- looking for something, I start organizing and next thing I know, i don't remember what I was looking for.

I must have some of those gremlins too- do you think they attach themselves to the fabric when they leave the quilt shop? The shop is always organized and the ladies know where everything is, so they must lie in wait for us to purchase and jump in the bag.

#1piecemaker 02-13-2011 04:54 AM

Oh yea!!! Sometimes it right there n front of me. Othere times, I have stacked something else on top of it. Happened to me just yesterday. and that is only because I just got up this morning.

Lavada 02-13-2011 05:08 AM

funny how that happens reminds me of my kids they always blamed sam he lived in our attic and was always doing wierd things like leaving toys out so i just blame him for taking my fabrc

Rody 02-13-2011 05:16 AM

That's my clue I need to clean up and organize. Just did that yesterday because I lost a charm bundle I wanted to look through for a particular fabric. I swear sometimes Heavenly Father just hides things so I will stop and organize!

I have binding strips cut out for a lap quilt and can't for the life of me find them. I have looked everywhere. So I cut out more strips (had to settle on another fabric -- darn) and sewed it on. Will probably find the previously cut strips shortly.

sonisew 02-13-2011 05:18 AM

All the time.

Zephyr 02-13-2011 05:26 AM

You aren't the only one. I bought three fabrics (several yards each) when we went to Hawaii over two years ago. I know I saw it once since then but still can't find it for the life of me. I was going to put it on QB to get some suggestions for a pattern, but not today!

pipp5 02-13-2011 05:29 AM

Looking now. I know it's there somewhere!

justlooking 02-13-2011 05:34 AM

Yes, with a lot of things. I seem to be looking for things more and more. Maybe I should be sewing more. Or how about going out to buy more fabric!

supergma 02-13-2011 05:46 AM

Just yesterday!

Deborah12687 02-13-2011 06:01 AM

Just did that last week looking for a half yard of fabric in my stash for a table runner for Easter. I went thru all my bins and took me most of a day looking for it. Well I gave up on it and packed up the bins. My cat was sitting on it the entire time as I had layed it in her favorite spot were she sleeps on the chair during the day!

steelecg 02-13-2011 06:07 AM

Everyday - finding things here is a treasure hunt

kayutanurse 02-13-2011 06:39 AM

I have had my older daughter, her husband, their two daughters, and their Great Dane move in with my husband and me so I have no room for anything!!!! My fabric is SO buried that I usually just go buy fabric since I can't even get near my stash. Someday, I hope to have a pleasant surprise by having them move into their own place and I get to rediscover my stash!!!!

Para722 02-13-2011 06:44 AM

It happened to me in December and I spent(wasted) two days refolding most of my fabric to find it. You are not alone.

jad1044 02-13-2011 06:52 AM

Yep - just yesterday I was looking for my white small piece of fabric I use to make labels for my quilts.... I have two boxes labeled solids, it had to be in one of them! and naturally they are on the bottom of the pile of boxes I have with fabric in them. So, I completely unpacked the pile, to get at the boxes, and nothing there!!! THEN I spied where I had put it before I got at putting these baby quilts together; I had "preplanned" and "forgot".......... Sometimes you feel it does not pay to get up in the mornings! But all turned out well in the end; I found 3 more baby projects to do - (we have a new baby coming into our family within the next couple months) - and so not all was in vane... plus I got my labels made and put on! So a good day afterall!

nance-ell 02-13-2011 06:54 AM

Happened to me just a couple of weeks ago! Thought I was losing my mind. I found the "missing" fabric yesterday, stacked between two other pieces of fabric and pushed back to where I couldn't see it.

pmckee67 02-13-2011 07:05 AM

I donated two baskets full of material to a church that makes quilts for missionary work, and will think about using what is gone, usually after I've searched for it. If you start something else it usually will show up then.

hikingquilter 02-13-2011 07:31 AM

Murphy's Law: You will find it as soon as you have bought another piece.

GloBug 02-13-2011 07:40 AM

All the time to all the quilters I know

craftymatt2 02-13-2011 07:41 AM

I have soooo much fabric, i won't ever know what I have or don't have. So i guess what I am saying is I hope I'm not looking for anything

tryitall 02-13-2011 07:49 AM

It is happening right now!! The piece I bought for backing for my current quilt has gone missing!!

Tweety2911 02-13-2011 07:59 AM

All the time! :-)

I think you sent it to me!!!

GGrammie 02-13-2011 08:08 AM

Kris...I thought I was the queen of losing fabrics and other things.

Happy hunting.

AnnieH 02-13-2011 08:10 AM

Usually at the same time as I'm looking for my glasses when I'm wearing them!

I was 3/4 of the way done with a baby quilt. hand embroidered. had to put everything sewing related away for THANKSGIVING cause grandkids would be here. not a problem, just a fact. Think that quilt has been seen since?! nope. I gave up and made the baby another quilt. Someday I'm gonna have a Real Serious room sorting. when it gets warmer

sherry mcd 02-13-2011 08:44 AM

Last week after semi-cleaning my sewing room(a mistake) I just knew I had thrown away four charm packs of clermont farms. After giving up, I found it folded up inside some fabric I was considering for backing. You're not alone!

cherrio 02-13-2011 08:53 AM

not fabric this time-my family was going on vacation from ohio to myrtal beach YEARS ago, for the first time. 4 cars all in a caravan with my dad in the lead car. more than half way there we were seeing some of the same things for the 3rd time. Here tell, the caravan captain was a wee bit lost, mom couldn't find the map and Heaven forbid dad ask for directions. Finally captain caravan agreed to stop for lunch, coffee and directions. mom was sitting on the map the whole time!!! oh cap was peeved and we didn't dare laugh about it till 2 days later. still chuckle and they both have been gone for 20 yrs. those are the stories I hope my kids remember
