LOL, its always in the very last place I look.

Debd 02-13-2011 09:05 AM

With fabric and cats that I need to brush!

dixiechunk 02-13-2011 09:08 AM

I refer to this as a black hole phenomenon. Sometimes I "find"
it in my sleep.

I am in the process of cutting a quilt & I ran out of the fabric. I got it at a quilt show It is Hoffman , but their site said it was discontinued. Question is: What is the site that was mentioned before here where one can look for fabric. I have the name & style number.

cjaye44 02-13-2011 09:50 AM

All the time!! And usually I am staring right at it

Melinda in Tulsa 02-13-2011 10:24 AM

I loose fabric on a daily basis. And not just fabric...my glasses (usually on my head), my cigarettes, (yes I have that nasty habit, only thing that keeps me reasonably sane), my keys, but what I miss the most is my mind!

I bought a pig pattern from McKenna Ryan and I started collecting fat quarters for it. Do you think I can find them? Nope! I think it may be CRS.

BeckiQuilts 02-13-2011 12:25 PM

I have recently bought a SECOND piece of fabric for backing because I had lost the original. Of course, I found it, but I am so tickled the the second purchase. I now have another back to choose from! Lucky me.

grandme26 02-13-2011 12:36 PM

All the time and most of the time it is right there laughing at me.

down1 02-13-2011 12:43 PM

you know it's always in that "safe" place that I'll never forget!

mac 02-13-2011 01:12 PM

In my house, my husband and I call it a 'vortex'. We think it is where all the missing things go to hide until you don't need them anymore. Then ‘POOF’ they suddenly turn up right in the spot you both looked for it.

I don't know why this happens. But it is kind of strange. It happens like this:

One day I lost the cross my godmother gave me for my baptism. I always wore it and then one day it wasn't around my neck. I searched everywhere. Years later, my husband and I decided to move our waterbed. It was a big job, but I was looking forward to it because it was the only place I couldn't get to during the search. When the bed was all apart, I got down on my hands and knees and ran my fingers through the room (the shag carpeting that came with the house was very thin). Disappointed, I told my husband that it wasn't there. He ran the carpet sweeper over the rug and then he went down on his hands and knees to look, especially between the base board and the rug. Nothing.

We set up the bed and went to sleep that night. I got up the next morning and after my husband left for work, looked again. Not there. I was doing my chores and later in the afternoon decided to take a nap. Just as I walked into the room, in the middle of the rug, out in plain site, was my cross. Just lying on top of the shag rug like I had just placed it right there. You couldn't miss it. If my husband had been home I would have accused him of playing a joke on me. I was all alone. Boy was I happy!

I tend to think of this as my personal miracle. But think of all those times that you spend looking right where you swore you put something a second ago and can't find it. Then, one day, the item is right there where you looked a million times. It’s right there, out in the open, like it was there the whole time. Strange.

Yep, we have a 'vortex' in our house.

bjchad 02-13-2011 01:16 PM

It is the quilter's black hole. One of these days it will spit it out when and where you least expect it. Usually when you are looking for the next thing it swallowed!

grammyj 02-13-2011 02:00 PM

I spend half my time looking for something.

Maybe1day 02-13-2011 02:19 PM

Oh yes! unfortunately it sure does happen to me as well. :( I searched high and low in every imaginable box of stash fabric for a particular fabric which was being used for the background of a quilt I was making. Could I find it (and I knew I had some of it left)? Of course not, couldn't be found anywhere. Just as I was thinking I would have to change the quilt into maybe table runners or table mats I happened to go into my take out sewing bag for something and there was the missing material
No it happens way to frequently in this house

Maybe1day

deanneellen 02-13-2011 03:01 PM

I lost some fabric a few weeks ago for a block of the month club. I had ironed all of it and hung it over the back of a chair for cutting and sewing later. A few days passed and when I wanted to start work on the block, I could not find it anywhere! Had almost made the decision to buy another block package when I found the material in the laundry basket with a shirt I had laid on top of the fabric and then thrown all into the basket for washing. Geez!

KwiltyKahy 02-13-2011 03:43 PM

All the time and not just with fabric.

p38flygirl 02-13-2011 03:44 PM

quiltinggranny 02-13-2011 03:45 PM

You do exquisite work and thanks for taking the time to put together the pictures for the rest of us to enjoy!

dreamer2009 02-13-2011 04:03 PM

Kris...it sounds like you have a fabric overload problem and should start sending some to me til you run across horses.
amazing what you can find with less to look through ...LOL

Sorrelpen 02-13-2011 04:09 PM

Yes all the time!! I bought 6 rotary blades, I have used one. I have looked for three weeks and still can't find them. Everything turns up eventually so good luck.

pookie ookie 02-13-2011 04:12 PM

I don't have enough fabric for that but I do have that problem in other areas.

That's where I find other people helpful. I ask someone else where it's hiding and they'll spot it immediately.

whatever 02-13-2011 04:14 PM

It's them dang gremlins they do things like that to me all the time lol

tmjennings 02-13-2011 04:15 PM

Nanjun 02-13-2011 04:33 PM

Yes after a thorough house cleaning I found my piece of material folded in with a pattern and another piece of fabric.

sew_itnow 02-13-2011 04:38 PM

LOL as a matter of fact that is what my problem is right now. I bought a piece of fabric to start a lap quilt for a friend and now I can't find it . REALLY frustrating. Oh well maybe we both will find them soon

costumegirl 02-13-2011 04:45 PM

Ha! Ha!! Did I write this question?? I'm also looking for a particular piece of fabric and a pattern that I know I have!! They both are hiding out somewhere in my house!! Yes!! I agree!! Very frustrating!!

Often. Best thing is to get someone else to take a look. A new pair of eyes quite often finds things quickly. I used to call my Mum hawkeye when she was alive. A friend found my 6" ruler which I had hunted for a week.
Hope you find it and
Happy Quilting

Minnisewta 02-13-2011 04:55 PM

This happens everyday and not just with fabric.

HeatherS 02-13-2011 05:00 PM

A couple of weeks ago, I spent 3 hours cutting out applique pieces, put them carefully into plastic bags, and then of course, put them carefully away so I knew exactly where to put my hands on them when I needed to use them. I need to use them now and do you think I can find them? I have spent the last 2 afternoons pulling my sewing room apart and no luck. It's those blasted quilting devils again!!! Don't you just hate when that happens?

jojosnana 02-13-2011 05:00 PM

Way too many times to tell you about. Sometimes I think I am crazy too!

Margie 02-13-2011 05:00 PM

I embroidered 8 squares for a quilt...cannot find them. I KNOW they are here...but where is here??

KwiltyKahy 02-13-2011 05:09 PM

Love your avatar, where did you get that picture?

Rose Bagwell 02-13-2011 05:14 PM

More times than I can count. Eventually I find it though, sometimes when I am not even looking for it.

G'ma Kay 02-13-2011 05:30 PM

This happens to me sometimes, not only with fabric, but with my keys, a recipe, a pair of shoes, etc. A very good friend told me once when this happens to her, she goes to the kitchen, makes a cup of tea, and spends five minutes in prayer. She told me this never failed her. I have had great success with it myself, however, my faith is not as great as hers, so I still sometimes am in my panic when I go back to look.

yellowsnow55 02-13-2011 05:31 PM

Yep, quite regularly!

fabric whisperer 02-13-2011 05:37 PM

haa haa daily ~ so I'm determined to get it all organized better and sorted, and am finding fabrics I have outgrown while I'm sorting :) Guess its time for a de-stashing party here! I lost one of my focal fabrics once... it was maddening, had all the kids and hubby looking. Found it in the clean laundry basket, it had gotten tossed on top, then hubby brought up more clean clothes and "hid" it... :)

kittykatz2001 02-13-2011 05:57 PM

I spend more time looking for something than getting anything done..that's why I am on a mission of organizing my quilt room. Been working on it for 2 weeks now. As long as I do some every day it will get done, it will get done.......been finding stuff I didn't know I had.
