Come Quilt with me Today - 7/15

The day is here!! Today is our monthly Virtual Quilt Day. The rules are simple, share your goals for the day with us, then get your butt in gear and sew!! Come back through out the day and check in, let us know how you are doing, share a picture or two, and give encouragement to others. Easy as that!! You can jump in with us any time, there is no starting or stopping time. I so hope you'll be able to join us today!!

I don't have many goals for today. I finally finished all the blocks for a quilt I have been working on for 2 years, so I may try and get those together, or I might get distracted by a new project. We'll have to see what comes out of the sewing room today!!

So what will you be working on?

Cheers!
Rachel

PS. Someone asked in another post about the best way to see the new comments only and here is a tip in case you don't know. When you are away from the computer for a bit and then come back to the thread, before you go into it, next to the title on the left you will notice a little blue circle with two white arrows pointing down. Click this and you will be taken only to the new posts in the thread since you have been on the computer. This should help you find the new stuff quicker!!

Thanks for the tip on how to view new messages!

I answered another post about not being able to get away from the computer to work on quilt blocks, mug rugs or lots of other projects that I am itching to do. I'm planning to turn off the computer and go back to bed, it is only 3:30am here in CA and I couldn't sleep .... I'm afraid if I turn it back on again I won't get anything accomplished!

I'll try my darndest to get something accomplished today, even if it is just to work on some fabric postcards for a couple of swaps!

carolaug 07-15-2012 02:42 AM

we should have a virual fold fabric day...and a virual clean sewing room day... LOL...

Vanogay 07-15-2012 02:53 AM

Well, I have been waiting for today and it's here. As soon as I get home from church and running two errands, I'll be on the machine and sewing with everyone. I'd like to finish one quilt today - it only needs the outer border put on. Then I have one more dress cut out (I do pillowcase dresses for children in Peru - except I don't use pillowcases, I make them from cut fabric). Then if there's time, I have hand work that really needs to be accomplished. Sew happy everyone. See ya later.

Same boat for me too here in Oregon. Gotta go to bed before I do any quilting!

What a great idea! I am in for that idea but it may take a few of those days :o

carolaug 07-15-2012 03:11 AM

Just checking to see what everyone is up to?? Where is everyone...sleeping - Wake Up! Dpn't waste you day in bed. Now get quilting ; )

himnherr 07-15-2012 03:15 AM

I'm ready for this! I can't get started for 2 more hours but here's my plan: I'm in my camper this wk which is what I'm making my scrappy log cabin for. I'm doing QAYG so I brought it with me and tried it on the bed. I realize I need one more row on each side- 12 more blocks. So I started earlier this wk- I have 5 done so far. My goal is to get the other 7 done today. Then I'll just be sandwiching each row & attaching. But at least all blocks will be done! Yay me!! Happy sewing day everyone! I'll post pics later.

franc36 07-15-2012 03:15 AM

My goal is to make the July block for Merry, Merry Snowman. I sewed together the pieces of the block before I got to my vacation destination. Now I will spend the day looking out over the marsh and doing all of the hand appliqué and embroidery. It is a gorgeous day! Off to sewing! Thanks, Rachel! Only you could get me to spend a day of vacation sewing.

Except for the CA part, I thought I'd posted this. I've had horrible insomnia all night & STILL haven't been to sleep. But as soon as I finish this post, I'm shutting everything down & am going to try to sleep for a little bit. I plan to work on both of my Jelly Roll Races today & if I get them done (it's doubtful, but...), I have some backings I need to work on also.

THANK YOU for the tip about the posts. I normally just scroll thru & that can take forever. So if nothing else, I've learned something new & useful today!

OK... off to beddie bye. C y'all later! And p. s: thanks for hosting this again this month. I just love these & really look forward to them every month.

Oh, that would be WONDERFUL! I find having to "be accountable" really helps me!

kristakz 07-15-2012 03:29 AM

I sure hope to join in today. But first, I need to make some progress on a knitting project that's due this month. So, I'm off to find my needles and hope to get into the sewing room by about noon.

I can't quilt until I have my coffee. I can barely type!!

But count me in! I do have to go to the farmer's market later, but I'm hoping to get the following done today:
Buy some amazing deals on produce (ok, not quilt-related!!).
A few loads of laundry, but not a ton of it!!
Finish quilting a throw for my son.
Finish quilting a quilt for our bed.
And if there's time, baste the next quilt.

The throw won't take any time at all. 2 hours max. The one for our bed.. will take longer. I just got my quilting machine out of the shop (yes, I should have used this off-time to baste the 3rd one... ) so I kind of need to get my groove back.

noveltyjunkie 07-15-2012 03:38 AM

Glad to see you all waking up. I just vacuumed part of the floor of my sewing room that has not seen the light for a wee while....

I found my mending basket under the clutter- found a great pair of black pants I totally forogot I owned- ripped the hem about a year ago and have mended that- now mending a rip in a dress.

Quilting may resume later!

mcdaniel023 07-15-2012 03:57 AM

Good Morning. I am heading to my happy place to put the binding on my hubby's bd gifts, a lap quilt, a table topper and wall hanging for his mancave. Pictures to come.

CoventryUK 07-15-2012 04:00 AM

Well I am sort of with you all!! I have just come out of hospital having had total left knee replacement!! DH has just loaded washing machine and is now vacuuming!! I am sitting in a sunny window doing hexagons in 1930s repro fabrics with a nice cup of coffee!!! I could get used to this!!!!!:D

noveltyjunkie 07-15-2012 04:04 AM

Latest update- dress is made of stupid fabric which is pulling every which way. It has been released permanently from my life!

NEXT!!

deedum 07-15-2012 04:47 AM

I am on my porch watching the hummingbirds and having my coffee. I plan to free motion this full/queen size quilt today! For my BIL who is sick. Got to get it done. This will help. So another cuppa or two and I will be in my play room shortly.

mary705 07-15-2012 04:49 AM

I'm getting ready to sew my 2" two patches into 4 patches for my Sunny Lanes quilt. And then will sew the amount needed into 16 patches. Haven't decided on the colors for 2 and 3 yet, may do scrappy in same color line. Also may get 2 baby quilts sandwiched together.

Already pressed my 4 FQ bundles I got from Tuesday morning (all have 12 FQ) paid between $20 -$25 for all

Patti25314 07-15-2012 04:49 AM

Signing in. I've got a errand to do before the sewing machine gets turned on. I'll be working on my tumbling block strips that I've made two majors mistakes with so far. If I can figure out how to post pic, I will do so later. The good news is that I learn best after making mistakes. If I do something right the first time, then I have no idea what I did right! lol

Pat625 07-15-2012 04:51 AM

Lazy me just got up..almost 9 am!! tried to get working yesterday and the kids had me crazy, running them in and out and everrywhere! Today I am not leaving the house!! Off to make coffee, and find the tylenol, and then begin cutting I had wanted to do yesterday. Then piecing to begin!!

DebraK 07-15-2012 04:51 AM

I plan to sew the rows, borders(?), backing, and prepare the binding strip for this baby quilt

Good Morning! I really enjoy these quilting days with all of you. I am just having my coffee and reading the Board, then plan on spending the majority of the day going through a tote of fabric that was given to me, it needs to be ironed, trimmed and refolded to fit my storage shelves. Then I would like to work on an applique/free motion machine embroidery project or finish up my first hand appliqued block.

Here are pictures.

ragqueen03 07-15-2012 05:09 AM

Don't know how much quilting I am going to get done today. My main goal today is to go fabric browsing for a quilt for my nephew who is getting married next month. But i definitely want to get something done today even if it is just sewing a few blocks together that i found last night. I picked this up at a rummage sale already pieced and am going to just sew them together for a scappy.

thimblebug6000 07-15-2012 05:12 AM

Just after 6 am here and I am busy washing fabrics that I collected on our vacation. Then I need to choose a baby quilt pattern & get started so hopefully will have something to show later in the day.

noveltyjunkie 07-15-2012 05:16 AM

Good price Mary! 1 FQ costs about 4 dollars here.....

kateyb 07-15-2012 05:19 AM

I've got a scrappy quilt I want to work on. Part of the day will be devoted to picking plums so don't know how much I'll get done.

I'm here! My goal is to get at least 50 Biscuit squares sewed together. Here is a picture of the 100 I got done last Sat & Sun. I need at least another 125 to make my throw 52" X 52" Might scale it back at some point!!!

I won't be here all day as it is Picture with your Pet to support the local animal shelter and I have a Sociology midterm tomorrow! Ugh!

Chicca 07-15-2012 05:23 AM

AshleyR.....Your Quilts are Beautiful. Have fun quilting them.

tucsonquilter 07-15-2012 05:23 AM

I decided I would join you today. Then maybe I will stay off the laptop and sew. LOL I have a flannel quilt I am hand sewing the binding on and I need to make some curtains for my DGDs bedroom. So off I go~

carolaug 07-15-2012 05:26 AM

You are lucky...plums...I have two plum trees and only one plum...LOL

Chicca 07-15-2012 05:29 AM

carolaug; I love what you have done with your blocks since yesterday. Sorry that you are one short, but I like your idea...have fun.

DebraK; Love the fabrics in your baby quilt, have fun quilting the gorgeous quilt also.

pjaco 07-15-2012 05:36 AM

I love your S quilt and am dying to make one myself. May I ask, what size your blocks are ? Your quilts are lovely

IrishNY 07-15-2012 05:41 AM

Checking in. Still in bed with coffee reading QB. I love lazy beginnings to the day. When I do get up, I plan to try to finish a quilt for my son made of 35 friendship star variation blocks. Each block has 8 HSTs and a fussy cut center square so just getting ready to put blocks together has been a lot of work. I do have 3 of the 7 rows sewn together thanks to my work yesterday so I have hope that I might finish. Need to finish my coffee and get to work.

I'll report progress later (I hope) :-)

They usually run $1.99 or so at JoAnns for one, $.99 cent if you can get them on sale. Someone on this board had mentioned Tuesday Morning, so stopped at a different, bigger store and got these. Wish I didn't forget to put my debit card back in my wallet, would have bought a lot more. But, could be a good thing I didn't have it too. Will post a pick of them all later.

azwendyg 07-15-2012 05:48 AM

Good morning all! I get to join you at least for a little while this morning so I'm off to my studio and will check back with some small projects later.
