I'm sure they are charging handling. They have to pack it into some container and prepare it for shipping, weigh it. It isn't just the cost of postage. Maybe they have to send an employee to the post office. All that costs the company.

When you go to the post office, do you consider your gas as part of your postage--it is.

IMHO, the cost of an employee wrapping and sending the item[s] should be part of the cost of doing business and rolled up into the price of the items in their inventory. The cost of postage might be charged to the customer as that varies by the location of the customer. You know that shipping and handling is profitable when the 'as seen on tv' items are free if you just pay the shipping and handling.

I've stopped ordering when the shipping/handling charge is so outrageous. There are so many that charge what it really costs -- equilter, virginia quilter has free shipping right now, connecting threads. If we don't order from them and they know the reason, maybe they'll wise up.

You might see on the site"shipping and handling". that is what most say!

I am pretty upset that when I was gong to order goat supplies S & H is 22% of the cost of the order! That is NUTS!!!!!! Other places are at 15% and up--they lost my business for sure, so looking for alternatives!
I always check for free S& H specials and coupons online....

Unfortunately that is how a lot of them are making their money. They might have cheaper fabric but they make it up on postage and "handling". Look at e-bay and you will see that a lot.

Yes, this would be my guess as well.

Well...if you want to get to that...I learned in my Finance banking class 50 years ago that Sears made more on their credit than they did on their sales. So...
