Serger threads are for sergers only.....I use to use them for regular sewing and when needing to remove the stitches they came out very easy meaning it's not for regular sewing.
I serge the edges on most of my fabrics also before I wash them.
Sure is a life saver.
Also I must have a Dritz thread stand because it tips over a lot.
I've enjoyed reading about all the thread stands you've made from dollar tree or Goodwill finds.

I used a quart jar for years before DH made me a stand. It is heavy enough not to move around.

I stand my cone on the floor behind the machine.

Sit it in a coffee cup or quart jar or buy a thread holder for cone thread i also have one and that works fine also behind your machine this is what i do and it work fine and the thread do not tangle i been doing this for years

Try and find one that has a metal rod. The plastic ones wobble to much and catch you thread.. I use mine all the time. Wish they made bobbins like that.

i set it at the back of the machine and sometime in a dish or bowl. Straighten out a large paperclip and tape it to the back side of the machine as a guide and then thread the usual way. You really need a guide above the cone so the thread can wind off straight upward so the cone doesn't have to turn.

I bought the stand from my LQS and it's made all the difference. I also use it to wind my bobbin on my automatic bobbin winder "thingy", forget the name and it saves the cone from dancing across the floor when it comes off the spool in the machine. They also have a hole to screw it into the table but mine is fiberglass and DH said NO to that.

The Dritz cone thread holder is all plastic and over time the long rod bends over and isn't very useful any more.
This website has a good all metal cone thread stand for about $8 and it will last forever, its got a nice heavy base and is much better than the Dritz one. Its about half way down the page after the fancy ones. I bought one before my DH bought me the fancy flower type of stand.
