When you buy your serger thread look on the inside of the cone and make sure it is made in North Carolina. The ones made in Mexico aren't as good quality than the nc ones.

I like the ones I've seen here that members have gotten at the 99cent store, or ones they've made themselves.

the fancy ones are too expensive for my retired pocket book.

I have a huge 10,000yd cone of metallic thread from Superior and I've had to just let it 'puddle' behind my machine while I kept a close eye on it so that it wouldn't get taut and ruin my stitches. Today I tried the 'plastic straw' suggestion by putting the thread thru that and taping it to my thread thingamajig on my machine. So far it seems to be working better but still had some 'drag'. Gonna have to try a few more 'home brewed' suggestions.

At joanns there is a white adapter to put on your thread cone to fit on thread spindle.

I just sit the cone on the table next to the end of my machine and thread it across the top. I never have had any trouble with it following over or tangleing up. The thread comes off the top of the cone and works just fine.

I use it on my sewing machine all the time, I also use a medicine plunger from target, and put that under the thread, as this makes it more stable. God bless.

When I use a large cone, I put it on the floor. The thread comes up off the top of the cone like it should and doesn't snag.

I tried that once and it got all caught up in the handwheel and the treadle wheel...thought I'd never get it all undone.

Don't buy the Dritz one. They tip over. The cast iron sounds like they way to go.

I have 2 of paulsmetalpetals, they work great and add some interest to the sewing machine area!
