Hi all, I know there are so many creative minds here, I'm hoping to dig a little! I got the Bali Pop set a while ago, then noticed it went almost *perfectly* with this little FQ I've had stowed. There's not much of the cat fabric, and as you see the pattern doesn't lend itself easily to cutting, darn.

Any creative thoughts on how to use them together, and which pattern to try? I'm trying to figure out whether to use the electric blue as a filler or if I should use black against the brights...I know I'll need some more of some color.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Good luck with that! I am doing the same thing this week with a quilt challenge. Only mine has snowmen on it! I have no ideas!

Woo! I'm not usually one for cat-type fabric, but this one is awesome! :D

Can't wait to see what you do with it!

erstan947 10-01-2011 07:53 AM

Love the colors and fabrics. Maybe the cats as the center, thin border with one of the colors or black next blocks made with the other fabrics, ie. pinwheels. then add borders and binding. Just a thought:)

valleyquiltermo 10-01-2011 07:55 AM

I think I would use the cat fabric like a panel and design around it.

Dolphyngyrl 10-01-2011 07:59 AM

What about a log cabin, and using the cat fabric fussy cut it for the center square. That would look nice

QuiltnLady1 10-01-2011 08:05 AM

How about Warm Wishes -- you have the ability to have a center that is big enough to enjoy the cats.

I was thinking the same thing, especially since you don't have much of your cat fabric.

Bonbonary 10-01-2011 08:06 AM

I agree with the idea of a center panel. The colors on the right would make great borders.

bearisgray 10-01-2011 08:10 AM

The cat print is adorable.

The way you have the fabric strips laid out around it looks nice -

I would do the same. That is one of those fabrics I would find hard to cut up.

muddlingabout 10-01-2011 08:17 AM

Or a modified Around the World with a large chunk of the cats for the center panel. Take a look at the kit for the Julie Pashkis Catkins panel, I think at Hancock's Paducah web site.

yayaquilts 10-01-2011 08:28 AM

How about Twisted Star, from Quilt in a Day. It's one of their signature patterns.

Tote.
I like your orange, green, and red for the other fabrics used.

Mariposa 10-01-2011 08:39 AM

Use the cat fabric as a center panel, and build around it. Could do pinwheels, log cabins, etc. to incorporate lots of colors.

So perfect!!! wish I had more help! what fabric maker made the the 'cats' ? If you don't mind sharing.

VickyS 10-01-2011 10:04 AM

Here's the perfect pattern to complement that print!

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-143414-1.htm

It is "Cats with the locked tails". I have a friend who adores cats and found this blog pointing the way to the free pattern.

Enjoy!

gramajo 10-01-2011 01:32 PM

I think I'd use the cats as a center panel, border with black & then use a couple of the solid-colored strips to make more borders. My last border would be the floral on the right & I'd probably sash it in black.

Cheshirepat 10-01-2011 01:34 PM

Thanks for all the replies! I have something to "chew over" now!

I wish my skills were up to that 'locked tail' pattern -it's awesome, but I'm still fairly new to the craft!

The selvage on it tell me it's a Michael Miller fabric, called 'Psycho Cat', lol. I got it from an Etsy seller...have been searching for more, but no luck so far. I just LOVE the colors!

twixbar 10-01-2011 02:04 PM

Sorry can't help you, but I love your fabric.

Debd 10-02-2011 02:48 AM

I had fun using similar fabric in a twisted log cabin. You can see the results here, http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-81954-5.htm, and the first pages of this link is a tutorial on how to do the technique!

I was thinking the same thing, especially since you don't have much of your cat fabric.

My first thought was to do log cabin with cats as focus.

sandy l 10-02-2011 04:46 AM

No help on what to do, but love the fabric

ksea 10-02-2011 04:58 AM

What if you did a 10minute block with the cats fussy cut for the middle block? Here is a tute http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-81908-1.htm

#1piecemaker 10-02-2011 04:58 AM

I think I would make the cats the focus block and sash them then you can make borders using the other fabric made like piano keys.

AprilG 10-02-2011 05:23 AM

What about a "Square in a Square" pattern?

FabrikQueen 10-02-2011 05:49 AM

Had you thought about one of the BQ patterns from Maple Island? They would showcase your awesome cat fabric in one of the pieces in that block. Google BQ quilt in images so you can see what they look like. Beautiful selection of fabrics, can't wait to see what you decide on!

Baloonatic 10-02-2011 05:59 AM

I think that's one of the cutest kitty fabrics I've seen!

jellybeans 10-02-2011 06:00 AM

Between my two daughters we have 7 cats. They'ed kill to have a something anything made from that fabric. I'll start looking around to see what I can find. Good luck. Be sure to post it when you finish it.

JoantheQuilter 10-02-2011 06:02 AM

This looks like perfect fabric to use as the 'view' from an "Attic Window" pattern. I think it would be striking.

J Carol 10-02-2011 06:06 AM

Love this fabric where did you find it and who is it by? Thanks in advance.

catmcclure 10-02-2011 06:13 AM

How about scanning the cat fabric and enlarging one of the cats about 600%. Then using that as an applique template. Applique the large cats on black fabric and border with batiks.

This website also has 19 pages of cat fabrics and I would assume the same number of dog fabrics.

Saw the link above was dead. Try this, mine is on the fifth page.

I was thinking Attic window as well.It would be so striking and each window frame could be a different colour.

BarbaraSue 10-02-2011 07:17 AM

Wow, pretty fabrics. All sorts of ideas.
Some of the simplest blocks can be stunning with strong fabrics. Square in a Square would aldo work. :)

fabric_fancy 10-02-2011 07:33 AM

you could do a large feathered star with the FQ maybe 24 inches in size and then make various star blocks with the strips to go around it.

tlstick 10-02-2011 08:18 AM

I agree to use the beautiful cat fabric as a panel and work blocks around it. I just did a quilt by mountainpeek creations Grand Stand pattern #328. I went together fast and really lets the panel show. Now working on Sidelights pattern #302 same designer Kari Nichols.

crafterrn1 10-02-2011 08:40 AM

I would do a puss in the corner block. Use the different colors for the outside. Alternate the colors. I think it wound work up nicely.

Whatever, I'd leave huge squares of the cats and finish them out with sashing.
