You are all so good having drinks in the sewing room. If I take one in, and it's NEVER on the sewing table, I get so engrossed, forget to drink it and it gets cold - ugh!

BTW Years ago, I had a pot plant on the other side of the table when I was making some curtains. Racing along so fast with the machine vibrating a treat and the plant edged itself along the table and onto the floor. I learnt my lesson the hard way! LOL

zz-pd 05-26-2010 01:57 AM

Never tried it. God bless. Penny

Quilt4u 05-26-2010 02:28 AM

betlinsmom 05-26-2010 03:56 AM

I am a TEA -a - holic. I drink hot tea or iced tea year around, so I always have a cup or a glass near by but not on my sewing table unless it is in my giant mug with a screw on lid and a pop up for the drinking hole, then I keep it on the side away from all the fabric. Mine is also not the watered down stuff. I seldom drink anything else except water.

sylvia77 05-26-2010 11:09 AM

I always have either a cold glass of tea or coke.

littleone 05-26-2010 11:14 AM

Always have to have water and sometimes a pot of tea, its' cozy is usually some yardage of material wrapped around the pot. All snacks and beverages are kept on the table on the other side of my room divider. No chance for oh no's.

(I can't! :x )

No way. No food or drink allowed anywhere near my sewing machine or my computer. It's wise to take periodic short breaks from both so when I need a drink, I leave the room and take a break and relax and drink and/or have a quick snack and then back at it.

quilterguy27 05-26-2010 12:50 PM

I've only read the first page of this thread and it sounds like you all are tea totalers. Nothing wrong with that, but I drink when I quilt and sew. Usually a glass of wine or something with vodka. Makes me relax and not so tense. Hope I'm not the only one, lol. I will keep reading. Haven't had an accident yet, but believe me, I AM CAREFUL! Can't afford an accident.

OK, just finished reading the whole thread. I must clarify alcoholic beverages isn't all I drink. I keep bottled water at hand always and sometimes coffee. NO ALCOHOL when using the rotary cutter. Music and a fun beverage always makes quilting more fun for me. So far, so good. No accidents yet and lets hope it stays that way! LOL!!

Ilovemydogs 05-27-2010 02:35 PM

Usually water or iced tea. On a chair next to the machine! :-)

dkabasketlady 05-28-2010 09:05 AM

I always have something to drink (not the alcoholic kind, too many meds, can't mix with liquor) next to me! Usually a glass of water or Coke(if I need the extra caffeine boost). The one time I did spill something luckily it was water, so I've been VERY careful since then.

Nanjun 05-31-2010 11:57 AM

I keep a bottle of water near my machine

New Kris 05-31-2010 02:49 PM

Ok I admit to an ocassional glass of wine. I usually spend three hour s trying to see if my fabric ideas work. So wine and color don't always work. But I never cut. So glad to just lust over my fabric!

Quilter a-go-go 06-01-2010 04:08 PM

Yep! water only - except when things are "ripping" along - then stronger stuff is required - away from the machine of cours, WAAAY AWAY!

quilterguy27 06-01-2010 04:14 PM

Hmmmm, am I the only snockered quilter on here???? LOL, just kidding. Although it sounds like I win by a landslide as for the amount consumed in the sewing room. Yes, I have the ocassional glass of wine and on more than a few occasions I've been known to sew with a Cape Cod or a Skrewdriver, but my ultimate favorite is a dirty Martini, mmmmmm! No drinking and cutting! That's a real NO-NO. Gosh, I make it sound like . . . You can come to your own conclusions. Let's just say I'm a happy quilter, OK?

my mother always said that you can always trust an "old fashioned gentleman", but you have to watch out for those martini drinkers!

I've never drank anything alcoholic while sewing but sometimes I think it would be a great idea!

DITTO!!!! Altho if I am struggling with a quilt, sometimes I take a break for 1/2 glass of wine (not at the sewing table tho'). That loosens me up and off I go again!

pookie ookie 06-03-2010 12:14 PM

Nope. Teetotaler.

I do have severe vertigo and sew. I'm trying to remember to never ever cut fabric while dizzy. Running about 90% successful on that one.

cwessel47 06-04-2010 10:19 AM

Yes. Uh-huh. Absolutely. Some of the most creative people who have walked this planet have had severe dependency issues. I'm not gonna put myself in that category but it does give me hope! It also gives me the nerve to try something new, use a color I avoid, quilt like a Mainiac (from Maine, after all) etc. I agree that it's not good to mix alcohol and a rotary cutter though.
Cheers!

quilting memaw 06-04-2010 11:52 AM

coffee, tea mostly iced tea and water.....get dry mouth because of meds.....so gotta have something cold.
now afterward......well I tried some fine wine last night...didn't agree with my meds...LOL...got a little rummy to the tummy. So I gave it up. Maybe I should have had it with my dinner than before. LOL.....has anyone tried vanilla vodka and coke? WOW....now that is smoooooth.........
