We all know we MUST NOT "Drink and Drive"...

but do you "Drink and Sew"?

(I can't! :x )

CAROLJ 05-23-2010 11:48 AM

I can't chew gum and sew let alone drink. Although, I have been known to have a glass of tea nearby. I don't have anything on my sewing table as I'm a bit of a clutz. That and my close up vision is poor so I need to concentrate on what I'm doing when I sew. :hunf:

reach for the stars 2 05-23-2010 11:49 AM

Only water!!!!

Grandmother23 05-23-2010 11:50 AM

I drink while I sew. Lipton Green Tea in a bottle with a screw cap. Learned the hard way to keep the cap on. lol

great aunt jacqui 05-23-2010 11:52 AM

a diet coke nearby but not on the table. sometimes I don't stop to eat when I'm motivated. :| :| ;-)

marsye 05-23-2010 11:58 AM

Mostly lemon water........or cranberry and apple juice without high fructose corn syrup.

Darlene 05-23-2010 11:59 AM

No I don't bring any food or drink upstairs. Never have.

Gramof6 05-23-2010 12:01 PM

Only ice water. It sets on a TV tray beside me. Never on my sewing table or cutting table.

amma 05-23-2010 12:08 PM

Coffee, water and tea :D:D:D
If had any alcohol, I would be making up new patterns as I went  :lol:

Wouldn't those make for some great copyrighted patterns???

Me? Always! Pepsi or ice water mostly. I can't do anything without a cold drink in hand (not of the alcoholic kind.)

clem55 05-23-2010 12:24 PM

I always have a glass of iced tea on the right side of my cabinet. Never an accident in 55 years! (Watch it happen tomorrow!!LOL)

DebraK 05-23-2010 12:27 PM

While I sew, yes, while I cut, NO!

patricej 05-23-2010 12:39 PM

diet coke or coffee. not on my work table. on my computer table.

so i can send my keyboard for an occassional swim. good thing it's washable.

granny_59 05-23-2010 12:40 PM

I always have a bottle of diet coke close by. I cant nest the seams into each other without licking my fingers first  makes thirsty.
On a german quilting board someone recomended a glass of champagne before FMQ to get relaxed. It is really very hard to get started with the fear of messing up a top you have been working for days.

TanyaMas 05-23-2010 12:44 PM

lol i bought a 100 ounce humongous cup with lid and straw...
it lasts all day lol
its never on my sewing table.. but also never out of my reach :D

quiltluvr 05-23-2010 12:54 PM

  Think those baseball caps with a can on either side and straws would work??? :P

GrammaNancy 05-23-2010 12:57 PM

I was kind of thinking of having a glass of wine and then trying the free motion quilting thing...I am too tense to do it right otherwise???

raptureready 05-23-2010 01:00 PM

Water, diet coke, or sparkling green tea. I don't drink alcohol even when I'm not sewing. I used to but found I don't have very good judgement when I drink.

Jim's Gem 05-23-2010 01:06 PM

Only water here!!! Ok, well, sometime some hot tea.

farscapegal 05-23-2010 01:11 PM

I always have tea or a diet mt dew on a book shelf next to my sewing table.

purplemem 05-23-2010 01:14 PM

I always have bottled water, the pressing makes me thirsty. I keep a top on it, tightened.

RatherB Quilting 05-23-2010 01:31 PM

I usually have a tea, but it's normally stone cold by the time I remember it. I also try to keep my beverage away from my fabric...which is typically why I forget it. I generally forget to eat too. *growl* speaking of which...

littlehud 05-23-2010 01:32 PM

I have to have something to sip on when sewing. For some reason it makes me really dry. I have water all day at work too.

MadQuilter 05-23-2010 01:42 PM

Yep - loving my fermented grape juice. A few glasses of wine relax me. But any more than two and the seams take on a life of their own. lol Key is to remember that redwine stains so being careful is a must!

Dragonfly Nana 05-23-2010 01:46 PM

Coffee, coffee, and coffee...but NOT in the sewing/computer room (DH had an accident once and that was the end of that!)

Love my fermented grape juice on occasion, but just one or I am sound asleep.

katei 05-23-2010 01:49 PM

Once, several years ago, me and a bottle of wine stayed up all night making a miniature log cabin quilt. After finishing it (and the wine) I went to bed delighted with the result. Got up next morning and just couldn't understand why the finished article didn't look so good as it had the night before  . I still have that quilt and it makes me smile everytime I look at it. It sits in the corner of my sewing room and serves as a gentle reminder!!

MistyMarie 05-23-2010 01:56 PM

I use my sewing room as a break from hubby and kids, so if the kids are upstairs and my husband is downstairs reloading his ammo, I will occasionally have one drink, but since that is totally my limit, my judgement is not impaired.

granny_59 05-23-2010 01:57 PM

LOL.............thats the problem about alcohol: everything looks much better until you wake up the next morning. Would love to see a picture of that quilt

0tis 05-23-2010 01:58 PM

I am a Diet Pepsi (caffeine free)gal, I have knocked it over on occasion, but no major spills yet.

ragqueen03 05-23-2010 02:05 PM

gotta have my diet mountain dew (it is never far from me!) and i have to have the radio on! could be why at my sewing classes i don't concentrate as well (no music and no dew!)

Only if you had been imbibing too  then they may look pretty darned good
I can feel one drink LOL two and I would be making wonky blocks unintentionally, and not the prety kind

sewnsewer2 05-23-2010 02:15 PM

Oh yes, all the time! I always have my tea, soda or water with me.

Booze? Nope, I'm a non drinker for the most part. I probably have 3 drinks a year! And that's only when I have a nice meal out.

Boston1954 05-23-2010 02:15 PM

I am a teetotaler.

Luv Quilts and Cats 05-23-2010 02:47 PM

I will drink hot or iced coffee, diet soda, water. So far (knock on wood), no spills. But I do worry about it. When quilting at a friends house, she sets up tv tray tables by everone so they can have something to drink but not have the glasses or bottles on the table. I think that's a great idea.

Kerri 05-23-2010 03:01 PM

usually water sometimes a glass of pop, but thats on the computer desk, the sewing machine is elsewhere. Can only drink liquor (migraines with wine and beer) and well liquor only really mixes with having a good times so I'd never try that LOL.

I have know a little birdie who did this a few times. It was very helpful to loosen up and do some practice. ;-)

Usually, I have water on a shelf nearby. Sometimes coffee. Never anything actually near my sewing table.

craftybear 05-23-2010 03:32 PM

drink water or ice tea but not on my sewing table

sharon b 05-23-2010 04:42 PM

I take my Pepsi everywhere

JanetM 05-23-2010 05:39 PM

So far only Diet Coke..but I wonder if a Black Russian would loosen me up a little and give me the courage to FMQ
