I buy most of my fabric at my local quilt shops. I rarely buy fabric online.

I prefer the store be in the USA, but I'll buy from any fabric/quilt shop that has what I want at the price I want to pay. The best value for the $ is my only criteria.

We are so fortunate here is Oregon, no sales taxes. I mostly shopat local quilt shops. There are 30 within 50 miles of my house.

I don't pay that much attention to where the vendor is. I want the stuff so I pay the price, and that includes tax. If it was exactly the same price at two places but I didn't have to pay tax at one, I would go for the no-tax vendor.

I must admit, as an overtaxed NYer, I take quiet satisfaction every time I order something from out of state that I don't have pay tax on. :roll:

While I don't like paying tax I just pay it and forget about it.

I pretty much shop local too, just because I dont get to far away, lol! I dont mind paying sales tax, doesnt seem like much to me.

I shop online and in my own state. I figure the tax man is going to find us no metter what we do so might as well enjoy the wonderful sales I find on fabrics, no matter where they come from. Good post though.

Right now, it doesn't matter to me since I live in NH, a sales tax free state. However, it is changing for online sales and pretty soon everyone will be paying the tax rate of the state where the business is located no matter where you live. It's the same as if you had driven to that state to buy in person even though there may be no actual storefront. The deeper in debt the states get, the faster it will happen. When it does, I will ONLY buy from shops in my own state! :lol:

A while back MA was going to send IRS agents to NH to enforce this but the NH Gov. threatened to arrest them. :)

Actually everyone is suposed to disclose purchases made online and pay the sales tax when filing their taxes.
