With my Bernina, I needed to use a leader. With my Janome, I do not. Love it!

I do use it occasionally when I am PPing those tiny sections.

helps a LOT...........

Sometimes

I don't; normally I just hold the thread if it seems to be a problem but rarely. One thing you might try; my manual for my Viking said to hook the thread over your thread cutter and that would prevent it from nesting and cut it lose as you sew. Worth a shot

sometimes i just go up to my sewing room & put the 4 patches together when i want something easy to play with.

A leader is just a scrap of fabric that you begin sewing on and continue sewing on your quilt piece. The purpose is to keep the thread from bunching up at the beginning of stitching the seam.

I've always used a "wabbit ear". Once I found Bonnie Hunters site I love the idea of using my scraps productively and having another project getting done.

Usually. I think it keeps things neat and saves some thread too.

I do..I keep a box of 2 1/2 squares beside the machine, and I start by sewing two of those together...eventually, you have enought of these "leaders" to put together into 4 patch or whatever, and you have another quilt going, along with the real one you are working on at the time.
