I just folded w/out the boards. I had one to wrap around but would pull it out. My fabric looks wonderful on my shelves

I always ask my LQS or Joann's if they have any empty bolts and I use them. :)

Besides the empty bolts for fabric, you can ask for the plastic doo-hickies that lace is wound on.

Hi...I have just reorganised my room (posted picures under So happy ..)and I wanted all my fabric sorted just like you because I had seen others with it looking great.
I ended up buying some Artist Mounting board (the stuff that boarders a picture in a frame). I cut one piece 18 x 51/2 to use as a folding guide (the cupboards were just too small to have 18x6 which I could have done round a ruler !) and then I cut the rest of the card into 12x 5 to make mini bolts. It was really easy to cut with my rotary cutter (blade will be useless afterwards though)......as the cardboard is used for paintings I thought it must be fairly safe........someone please tell me if it's not !

I use the cardboard "silver boards" that are used to archive comic books. Found them at a comic book store and also at Amazon. Prices range between $9 - $11 for 100. They work great and are archival quality so there is nothing to bleed onto my fabric.

If you go to Joann or Walmart, they are happy to give you the empty bolts for free.

The sheets are huge and I cut many sizes from each one.
Someone else will know what I mean :)

I think you are referring to foam board. Works great
