I must tell you that I went to Handcock's in Conway, AR a few weeks ago. The cutter was afraid that I wouldn't receive the yardage I asked for if she just cut it. It was badly wrapped on the bolt and she cut a few more inches... That is My store and a lovely experience!

Hi!
I'm glad that lady saw the bad cut before you paid for the stuff. That's really disappointing!

Hi, Annaleehunter!
Good for you! At least that woman knew you wouldn't get the right amount out of it.

Good for you and us!

Hi, Deb!
Stand your ground. If she gets away with it once, she'll do it to other people.

Hi, Elaine!
I guess the higher you go, the more likely you are of getting a good resolution.

If the STATED size was 18x21, it was your responsibility to make the decision to buy it or not.
On the other hand, if the pieces were cut crooked, I would have returned them immediately and asked for (and gotten) a refund. That's just sloppy workmanship by their cutters and there's no way I would accept it. We quilters are a loving and forgiving group, perhaps its time we show a bit of "backbone". We were successful with Walmart, pehaps its time other merchants heard our voices when we are displeased.

Good for you......I think we should all follow in your footsteps as they are getting worse and worse. Since so many of the stores seem to have the same practices I'm wondering if this is something that is handed down from corporate and taught in their training sessions.

Yes, I would definitely say something after showing them the fabric. I have saved Batik fat quarters for ages waiting for a chance to use them and when I did, some were cut so badly I had to trim inches off to square them. It was a huge disappointment to me and I have no clue where I bought them. I find that when I take something back, if I have a smile on my face, I get results better than when I am crabby.
