First & foremost I am a Child of God. Then I am a wife & a mother.
|
First of all I am a person, a wife, a mother to both human (that are grown and on their own) and a fur babies. Then I am a sewer, a quilter-both machine and hand, crafter, beader, gem hunter, crocheter, all around person who enjoys the outdoors but would rather be behind a sewing machine doing something. I have worked many jobs and done many jobs and my bucket list keeps getting longer and longer !LOL

I am a fiber artist. I make quilts (tops and quilt when double bed size or smaller), make quilted jackets, purses, bags, various accessory items that are fabric. Some I do for myself and some are commissions. I hand dye, do batik with wax and tjaps, discharge, natural dye, make and use screens to add and subtract color from fabrics. My regular Mon-Fri job gets in the way of my fun with my sewing machines, fabrics, and dyes.

I'm a wife, mother, gramma, great gramma, and an old sew and sew. lol
I really like this one! I'm just "Me" which is how I often sign myself. Funny! Since my name is actually Mary Elane I often sign things "me" or "me and mine" if it is from my family. I have two aunts that have the same initials and they are Big ME and I am little me. Mary Lane, I would consider you a crafter, just as I do myself. I sew not only quilts, but other things as well, and that is crafting to me. Definitely not one I ever considered but I suppose it fits. One of my son's girlfriends told her mom I was crafty and could do anything and she would just take me a picture of the flowers she wanted for prom. Worked out well for all but I don't want to make a living like that. I am really enjoying your comments but they make me want to add more about myself. I will stick with the sewing related. |
I'm a quilter!

Very interesting thread... I have been called the hat lady since I created and designed hats... I have been called the quilt lady here in town since I have donated a lot of quilts for raffles and fund raisers.. I have been called teacher since I love to share my passion for creating and sewing. I love to sew whether it is garments that I wear, quilts that I share, or hats to keep me warm. I love the process of selecting, cutting and sewing to create something wonderful from that plain piece of fabric. My children and grand children all think of me in my sewing space creating. I don't have a word for it but that is what I do.

I read a lot of blogs and articles on line. I find the way people refer to themselves and their skills/hobby interesting and sometimes amusing. So, what are you? A quilter, a tailor, seamstress, hobby sewer, etc...
I refuse to be called a quilter or a sewist. I sew everything, not just quilts and frankly, quilts are the least fun to sew but they are the best received gifts. The term "sewist" isn't even recognized in dictionaries and just drives me nuts. So, I am pretty much a seamstress. I can and do sew most anything from upholstery to wedding gowns. How about you? I DON'T GLUE STUFF! So skip the sequined Christmas ornaments and such. |

Is "Textile Artist" too pretentious?

WTG, Jenn! They'd never get me out of the plane while it was in the air. Congrats, on something that I'm sure is a great joy! |
