I'm ready to try a green cutting mat. I am under the impression that my white mat actually wears out the blades faster. Any comments?

I don't change my blade until I see that I have to go over it the 2nd and 3rd time and then I figure it's past time and I got my moneys worth.

I use the blades in my olfa rotary cutter the 45. they work great.

Yes, you can use them in your fabric rotary cutters, such as Olfa, etc. I don't know what the carpet rotary cutter looks like. They work great in the cutters we always use to cut out our quilts.
