Sounds to me like we need a video on how these work and the best way to use them. People are using them differently, and maybe either way is correct? ? ? ?

That is the original purpose of the Slidelock to be on top of your ruler. Not on the cutting edge of the ruler but to hold your ruler in place. It use to be called RULE STEADY. I have one of the first ones from Australia and one of the newer ones. They are both exactly alike.

You don't use it on top of the ruler, you place the slidelock up next to the ruler, then remove the ruler.

Oh, that's a good idea Prism99! Just wish you'd posted it one day sooner as I cut several thousand 1 1/2" strips yesterday with my June Taylor - and there was my Slidelock sitting right there! Oh, well, 100 black strips still to cut today!
What are cutting all those strips for? |
Did you see the video on the web site above. She uses it by itself after measuring with a ruler not on top of another ruler

The rule steady is totally different. It sits partly on and partly off the ruler so it does hold the ruler steady. The slidelock is just a flat piece of plastic with a handle and some rubber balls.

Have it, love it, hands stay above any cutting utensil. Could not do with out it!!

No, it absolutely doesn't! I'm posting a tute on the way I just learned to do it.......

I would think you would lose the gripping ability of the Slidelock if you use it on top of a ruler. Doesn't the ruler slip just as much as using the ruler alone?
Here is a video demonstrating the Slidelock: http://quiltersslidelock.com/ |
I can see doing a tute on how YOU like to use it but to say the company is using it wrong? That makes no sense at all. I use it like they say to use it and it works that way so how can it be wrong?

I guess I don't understand how you would use this on top of the June Taylor Shape Cut with the multiple strips. You lay it on the mat at a slit and keep moving it over to the next slit you want to use? How does this help?
Also I had never heard of this cutting helper so I just watched the video and yes it does look great for when you just have a few cuts. Did I hear her right that you can't do several layers with it? |
