LOL I'm with you I detest alterations! That's funny.....why do people assume because you sew you want to fix all their clothes??? Craziness!!

Hate, hate, hate alterations!!! A few of my friends have asked for them and I try to at least hesitate. So far, they have not given them to me. I've decided if/when the subject comes up again, I'm going to be good to myself and tell them it is like punishment.

The cheek of him. You are so much calmer than I would have been. Take a pat on the back for your quick and polite answer.

It's the same as people saying, "Oh, you're a doctor? Hey, I've got......What do you think?" My DIL says she doesn't deal with anything below the clavicle and I have still seen people try to get her to diagnose their various ailments.

I would probably be quicker to do his alterations than to make him a quilt!

Hey, Don't knock it till you have tried it. Alterations bring in a lot of money. I think my husband married me because I could do things like repair the pockets in his jeans and cook from scratch. His first wife could do neither and was proud of it. If you wanted some extra money for quilt stuff you could earn it real fast doing even basic alterations or repairs. Ask anyone who has been a bridesmaid lately how much it cost them to have the dress hemmed, altered or fitted.

Several weeks ago, I was in a quilt shop in a small town. A guy walked in and took off his coat, then he said to the owner, can you fix this, she said yes. However she was not ready to drop everything and fix it right on the spot, unfortunately he thought she would. They finally settled on doing it within the hour. I thought, typical mentality of some people, you can do it the minute they want it. I left, she was working on it. It was a Friday afternoon, I know he might have needed it for the weekend. But still. Hope she was able to get her money out of that deal.

I know what you mean--I hate hemming!

AliKat 03-13-2012 07:03 AM

Hey, that is how I used to get extra from. I don't mind and I set my own timeline. After all hems are easy breezy.

If you don't want to do it, that is OK. If you do, you will probably get the job.
