I did this same set of blocks. At the time I purchased a beautiful piece of fabric (sorry don't remember the name of the fabric) that had all of these colors swirled in it, mostly the green. I used it for sashing. It really tied these hideous blocks together. Sorry to say that the top is still waiting to be quilted. I used the same sashing fabric for backing -- cost a small fortune.

I'd go with the same dark blue as sashing then a narrow border of the light blue and a wide border of the dark blue again. Another obvious choice is a black marble in one wide border with the dark blue as sashing. The blue will balance the yellow without making it look sickly (or sickening).

totally agree -- I think they are wonderful! Red would be awesome! go for it!

I love the marbled fabric in Jane's quilt.

Plaid, Stripes, Polkadots - all GREAT ideas!

If you truly can't stand the yellow, just make them up for Linus, or substitute out some of the fabrics like the pic that was posted.

Or make the whole quilt, donate it to a raffle.

Great suggestions from all although i would not use black as it will just frame the yellow -- the print or flowers would be great. I would take them to the store and lay them on any bolt that catches your fancy -- you might find something quite surprising -- and wonderful.

This is probably the best suggestion. Try out a little bit of everything until you see something you like.

What wonderful ideas! I made notes for other quilts. I took the two worst blocks of this one and hunted for compatible fabric, couldn't find anything that shrieked "Buy me!" (The quality of the BOM blocks is so cheesy, even if I had found something, to add $12.95 a yard fabric would have been throwing good money after bad -- the BOM would probably shrink up and drag the good fabric into puckers.) At good ol' Wally World I found some plain dark blue and some green that match (nearly) the blocks and putting it together it doesn't look half bad.

Looking at the meager assembly instructions I discovered I made these the winter of 2003-04 and it's gratifying to see how much I've learned since then: exact 1/4" seams DO matter and a 1/4" foot really helps that. (I hung the starch-pressed panels on a rack in the bathtub across from the throne, from whence I noticed a totally hacked-off point which I repaired.)
