Your fabrics are gorgeous! I would just get the measurements for the pictured quilt and make it that size. 10" squares sewn together and quilt it with the same straight lines. Im sure she'll love it. If she doesn't I'm sure you won't have any problems getting someone to take it off your hands. Put me on that list...LOL

I like the fabrics you have chosen and think they are very close to the picture. I would do a D9P or some other pattern the emphasize the beautiful fabric in large blocks.

I agree with the majority of comments. Make it simple and the larger blocks and the way you would like it. That is how I buy gifts or make them; if I like them it is good. Your future niece - n-law probably is not used to homemade quilts or has no knowledge of quilting. Enjoy making what you like and it will be beautiful. Teresa

The fabric you picked out is lovely! I would also do a 10' block and sew it like the pb quilt. You could applique something on teh blocks and do some nice quilting.

That's my opinion, too. She evidently likes a "simple" design so why tie yourself in knots trying to please her? When I'm making a gift for someone I don't know well (like a far-flung relative or somebody from my DH's work), I usually make something simple & scrappy. That way I hit all the bases color-wise. For the borders, I use what-ever color they have for their wedding (hey, if they use it for their bridal party, they mist kinda like it at least). That's just my two cents worth. I don't know which is harder... people who don't know what they want or those who know EXACTLY what they want. LOL! Please post when you're done, OK?

I agree with the others that have supported your fabric choices but suggest that you keep it simple. If she likes the look of 10" blocks, go with it. Use your own creativity in the actual quilting to make it your own style. I love the fabrics you've chosen.

The line is Moda 3 sister Etchings. I got the batch from Hanncocks but they're not stocking it now. They had cancelled a backorder so I had to search to relpace it. I did go to 3 sisters web site and there are a few people in their area that are still carrying it at about $10 a yard.

Maybe you could invite her to an 'I'd like to meet you/get to know you lunch' also invite your sister along. Have ready some pics of quilts/patterns that you might like to make a quilt out of using those beautiful fabrics and ask her if there's any she likes. If she's not a sewer/quilter maybe she just doesn't have a clue what to tell you. When my daughter was pregnant and I asked her what kind of baby quilt she would like. Her reply was "something cute". She never had an interest in sewing except to bring me pictures of clothes and say can you make me that? I once used my wooden spoon like a magic wand and waved it over her head and said, "You are that." She said, "oh, so NOT funny mom!" :)
