CoventryUK, that is how I do mine. Also working on 1inch Hexie's with 2.5 squares. Sometimes I cut the excess fabric, sometimes not. I also use heavy paper or excess photo sheets and cut them all at one time. No problems removing them as I go and if taken care of can be reused. Right now I'm just sewing them in color groups so not really a flower garden. Still trying to visualize how I want the outcome. From the 2nd pic, you see where the paper is left in till all 6 sides are sewn, then I just pop them out.

. Wow....your colour choices are beautiful!! That is going to look stunning!!

What a great way to do it. I've never wanted to tackle it but think I might now.

Have a question ..... have a GFG STARTED but am only doing a center with one round of printed hexies with an outer round of solid white. Have 88 of these. How many does it take to make a full size quilt? Also thought maybe these could be used for the top surface of the bed with overhang of a white border with a floral applique. Thoughts?

I so want to do some hexies or other EPP. I love what I've seen here as suggestions for what I might want to try. Now to get started!

That's how I'm doing mine....no idea how many I have done and I have LOTS of the flowers done and a box full of hexes ready to put together!!! I am just going to continue till it fits my bed!! Could take years!!!! :) Your idea of solid white border and appliqué sounds fine!! I'm sure it would look lovely!

Hilary, I love your method and your quilt in progress is absolutely gorgeous! Any hints on sewing the hexies together?

Judith Ann, I love the way you are putting your hexies together with a decorative stitch on your sewing machine, great idea and it looks easy enough, is it?

Tucsonquilter, your quilt is beautiful! I'm beginning to like hexies, will have to try some.
