My first quilt, i didn't thread baste, and noticed that by the time i got to the borders, the corners were wonky a bit. I am always too excited to start the quilting!!!

The 2nd quilt i only basted when it got to the borders, it helped, but there was still too much to ease in. This time i did take the time to baste all of it - so i gotta admit that it's going much better!

So - basting is it for me!!

I pin baste all my quilts before quilting them on my domestic machine.

I use 505 or Dritz. The Dritz is available at Joann's and is "couponable" (my word).

The Sullivans - well, I could feel that killing my brain cells as I sprayed it. That was years ago, so maybe they've changed their formula.

But the Dritz has been working very well. And I've never had gum-up on my needle from using a spray.

I use June Tailor spray baste. If I'm working on a large quilt, I also machine baste with water soluble thread. The thread washes out when done. It works great on the large quilts that get a lot of handling.

I just watched Sharon Schamber's video for thread basting and it's so much easier than the way I've done it for years. Thanks to the board for finding it for me!
Oh- this one is for hand quilting, not sure what you meant.

I use SS method, my husband got me some 8 ft boards and I put the leaf in my dining rm table and I roll my backing and quilt top and pin the quilt. It is so easy and never have pleats.
