Spray basting is faster. It saves time and my back and knees.
I use whatever brand is on sale. Yes, it stinks, yes it can make a mess. So I'm careful not to breathe it any longer than necessary, and not to overspray. I don't notice any difference on the needle when sewing. It washes out of your quilt in the first wash. And if you overspray, a little soap and water is good for your sewing room, every so often anyway.

If you don't plan to wash your quilt.... I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should hand baste? I like to wash my quilts as soon as they are quilted.

I had to look up pinmoor from your link. Very interesting. I use bent safety pins and the Kwik Clip, I think it's called.

So do I. And yesterday at my Walmart's they had it for $7.98 a can. The last time I bought it there it cost half again that much (10-11 dollars).

I use the crooked safety pins whenever I baste. I find the spray baste stuff gets all over everything, including my hair, and it is really only good if used outside, out of the breeze. Since I live in the north, this is useless except in July!

I do not know what I do wrong but anytime I spray baste it gums up my needle. I used Sullivans.

Depending on the size of the quilt, I've pin basted and thread basted. For small items, I have spray basted. However, I did find that I'm allergic to Sullivan's spray - I break out in hives.

I do not use any spray products. A lung disease (not smoking) wiped out 60% of my lung function. Too often, I have seen where a product is considered safe, only to find out it has harmful effects. I cannot afford to loose any more lung capacity. I use the curved pins to baste small quilts. I quilt my larger quilts block by block so I use the pins on those too. I plan to try the method with the boards and hand basting. Just saw it recently online. Now if I can find that site when I need it. :)

I use 505 Spray only. It doesn't gum up the needle at all when machine quilting. If I'm hand quilting, I take it to my mom who has a long arm. She bastes it on her machine by setting the stitch lenght as long as she can. She uses up odds and ends of thread. I use a Q-Snap floor frame to quilt it on and they have to be basted first.

I never thought of using water soluable thread to machine baste. I'll have to try that on the larger quilts. Thx 4 the hint.
